New guitar

I dont know why Prince is using Vox guitars exclusively for the last couple years.

The guitar sounds muddy, hissy, and Prince sounds less inspired with Vox compared to him playing

Strats and Hohner.

I suspect Vox is a mark of an era and Prince will stop using it after he disbands 3rdeye.

Even Jesse Johnson is playing Vox these days.

Not to mention the design on the guitar is kinda ugly. What is it meant to be? It looks like something hellish, lol.

I've always prefered him playing the Cloud guitar and the Hohner. He's probably just experimenting.

I am a guitarist and I've been playing for probably 20 years. I've owned a lot of guitars. I can tell you that as a personal preference I like his tele the best with his cloud coming in second.

The strat and symbol guitars SUCK and they sound identical to me.

The Vox is an improvement to my ears. A vast improvement over the strats.

This is all subjective, of course. Some people like the shitty, (to my ears) sound of the strats. Prince played his for a while. I'm sure he liked what he heard, (although he did say he would sacrifice certain things in a guitar if the 'look' was there).

Don't get me wrong, I love strats. One of my favorite guitars is a strat. However, the combination of a Floyd Rose tremolo and his EMG pickups doesn't do it for me. I can't stand EMGs, in fact. I don't know why they sound decent on the cloud, but generally speaking I have little use for active guitar pickups.

It's all down to personal preference, obviously, but I don't mind the Vox at all.

Steak, do you think that the EMG sounding good on the Cloud has something to do with the woodstock of the guitar? I do believe the Clouds were Maple and the Symbol guitars were mahogheny.

The only reason i can think of as to why he is using Vox guitars is that James Brown guitarists
used to play them in the 70's. I've seen pics of Catfish Collins playing a Vox but they were uglier then.
