Ahhh. Love this song. Love it when Prince noodles around on his guitar with those reverbed tones (0.56 - 1.21) - could listen to him play like this all day. Gorgeous.
.
Ok. I'm a VERY amateurish guitarist, but here's my stab at the verse chord progression...
.
G A G A G A C Am
.
But play the G chord without holding the top string, ie:
.
e|-------0---
B|-------0---
G|-------0---
D|-------0---
A|-------3---
E|-------2---
.
I play the chorus with the same progression but using a proper G major chord, ie:
.
e|-------2---
B|-------0---
G|-------0---
D|-------0---
A|-------3---
E|-------2---
.
...and a different A-chord, ie:
.
e|-------0---
B|-------3---
G|-------2---
D|-------2---
A|-------0---
E|-------0---
.
This A in the chorus chord progression sounds a little off, but it works for me. Like I said I'm quite the beginner, so take heed! I'm sure DanDan or more competent guitarists will correct me here.
.
Enjoy!

Thanks guys! I forgot to mention I am a lowly keyboard player and cannot play guitar at all
So the tab above makes no sense to me - however the progression of G A G A C Am, etc does. I will start with that and see if I can work out a chart for piano.
Thanks again! |

You know your stuff, gentlemen.
There should be a category on the org named "Prince: Music that's all". Are they other threads like this on the org? The Colors R brighter, the Bond is much tighter

I wish there was! I'd love to discuss P's music in an actual musical sense.

How sure are you on the A7sus4 - I cannot seem to get that to sound right to match what is in the song - but it might just be my lack of skill LOL
Thanks! |

I'm pretty sure it's right what I tabbed out. I might be getting the name of the chord wrong though. The notes of the chord I'm playing are A E G D
