Aretha has always had a big crush on Andre 3000. Eye guess she finally got him alone in the studio.. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

I expected another lame cover trying to emulate either Sinead's or Prince's 1992 version and they completely recreated it and turned it into a fine retro jazz tune, a real good surprise! A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Aretha is easily in the top ten greatest singers of popular music of all time, for me. Her classics of the sixites and seventies still sound fresh as paint, and have an artfulness and effortlessness that most others can't even see, let alone touch.
This however, is a bad recording of a poor arrangement of a misunderstood, misinterpreted song. It sounds like they're not even performing together, just at the same time, like the band was dubbed in afterwards.
Andre 3000 may be respected as a pop guy these days, but this proves he has no real idea how to PRODUCE at a grass roots level, in terms of matching artist with material, arrangement and musicians.
It sounds like a fake jazz group playing alongside Aretha, who sounds like she doesn't really want to be singing the song this way, but her professionalism carries her to at least get through the song.
Even if someone like Rick Rubin had produced this, it would sound more organic. Better still Allen Toussaint.
