The cover photo is so obviously photoshopped. Horrible.

Sounds great to me..

Modern sounding ie: too clean for my tastes.... but, it proves that the real deal will always shine in any light.

Terrible, but i've never been a fan of hers.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I like this arrangement.Kinda makes me wish that Aretha had done a full-fledged jazz album. That would have been so much more interesting!

Yikes. What was that?

Vocals sound pitched up, from being sped up. Of all the things to shooby-doo-bop on.

This sounds like something from the Idlewild soundtrack. I really like Aretha Franklin and Outkast (both Andre 300 and Big Boi). Unfortunately I can't stand this version, luckily it is forgetable. Certainly it is below the Prince Rosie,Sinead, or the Family version. I am interested what everybody else thinks. It just seems to be all jazz and no soul. Jazzy does not mean it should have no soul. A wasted opportunity.

how disappointing, there's not any sensuality in this version.

Instead a too fast running jazzy version... not my taste at all.

Damn I had hopes for a great Aretha-album....

How disappointed I am... her voice sounds like shit running that fast.. sad

You'll like this much better once you imagine what would have happened had she picked Purple Rain.

I like the idea of doing something different with it and even giving it some kind of jazzy spin, but something about it just doesn't quite work for me - almost like it's a first take and they'll play around and get it just right after a bit. All sounds a bit hurried and flippant. (It's supposed to be a heartbroken torch song!)

And then I can't help but compare it to an imagined version by 1970s Aretha, where she's sitting at the piano, reflecting on lost love.....

awful ! did they even bother looking at the lyrics to understand the sentiment and emotion of this song before coming up with that ridiculous arrangement ?

No. Some things don't need to be remade. I don't care who you are! Aretha was better off making an album of originals with someone who could complement her voice.

That cover photo is horrendous, I can't believe everyone involved agreed to that cover photo (1st time using Photoshop?), nevermind the actual song:-? It seems a bit to upbeat for such a sad sounding song but the overall sound isn't that bad. It certainly isn't great or very memorable, but a decent effort.

I don't think it's that bad, And do like the twist she put on it, Avoiding a "usuall" cover version.

But overall i agree with the fact she was better off "making an album of originals with someone who could complement her voice".

This is an example of having great songwriting, a great singer, and a great producer, but it just misses the mark. This is so not a jazzy upbeat tune. If Andre really wanted to do a Prince song with Aretha, there are a thousand others he could've chosen and done up like this, then knock it outta the park. But this is just wrong. I sounds to me like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

It would have been really easy for Andre to use the same, predictable arrangement that we heard on other versions of this song.I like the fact that he went in a whole new direction. That's what makes it the most interesting song on Aretha's album lol I generally hate the idea of covers albums, but if you're gonna do it,at least bring something new and interesting to the songs.I think Andre did exactly that.

Yeah but it sounds shit, simple as that. I don't care how 'different' something is - if it isn't good, it isn't good.
