I can't believe it, but I "unliked" Prince's official Facebook page. Even more shocking to me, it's beacuse of TOO MUCH activity! I'm getting half a dozen or more notifications a day because the account posts some random tweet as a photo or posts a fifth link to "Way Back Home" audio on Youtube. It's spammy and it's pretty annoying. Also, why is there this much activity the week AFTER the album came out?

Yeah, I turned off notifications for 3rdeyegirl and purplessence Twitter feeds, which I only turned on the other day, thinking I was getting tour information.

They have no strategy for their social media. The twitter account is the same. Posting something, then deleting it and posting it again because it didn't get enough attention first time. If Prince isn't posting himself then he's got his PA doing it on the phone he says he doesn't own. Hence the inconsistancy of it.

If it's supposed to come of as "personal" then it's easy to take an iPhone into the studio and snap a few pictures or post a short video of someone playing a riff... things that are amusing. - Like the "rehersal pic". Thats engadging and builds interest in the activity stream. Repeated re-postings just looks tragic. If it's purely a promo tool, then get a website and talk about your products.

To be fair, Hannah and Josh have posted/said a few interesting things.

In terms of artists making money, yes - he said it was dead. His argument is that piracy and on demand free listening via video channels like YouTube killed the promise of selling digital goods online.

His meaning is pretty clear if you read the quote in context.

I almost clicked Unfollow on Prince's FB page this morning as I too got the Fixurlifeup or Way Back Home youtube audio link for the 50th time.

U can turn off notifications without unliking a page, same with communities.

Facebook? How bout Twitter? I have never seen more tweets from a single artist the history of twitter. He is addicted to social media now apparantly. It's a miracle he even finds the time to record with a new tweet hitting every 3 minutes.

I like his old tweets better. They'll never compete with his new tweets. Ideally I'd like him to open his vault of tweets and unleash some of those badboys from June and July onto us that never saw the light of day. Remastered with emoticons.

I like his old tweets better. They'll never compete with his new tweets. Ideally I'd like him to open his vault of tweets and unleash some of those badboys from June and July onto us that never saw the light of day. Remastered with emoticons.

They are definitely in need of remastering. Some of them are hardly visible, all pale grey font and no pics. As long as he doesn't just bold everything so it just distorts ugh!

I'm afraid he'll just rewrite those old tweets and add a horn section.

I unliked him too.

Turns out I had liked an earlier page and the new official page got automatically liked because of that. I found it a bit stupid that I had him appear TWICE in my likes for "music". I want to have just 30-40 names listed there, so that the people I've just friended will have some idea what type of music I like. I don't want the page to scream "PRINCE NUT".
