How dare you post a video of yourself listening to Prince's new song in your car! Prince can't get paid for that! When will HE be paid? Don't you know...Prince has an estate. You people need to stop tripping."

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

why would you think posting a recording of someone else's copyrighted music wouldn't be copyright infringement?

I got warnings when I posted a video with some gay dudes dancing to Telephone (Gaga) on the street. I even got a warning for filming a drag artist too well.

I didn't see anyting in there that would cover what happened. The work is copyrighted, posting a recording of it is copyright infringement.

Of course it is. Saying Prince's name is copyright infringement. Thinking about his beautiful face is copyright infringement lol

In all honesty though, I think how stingey Prince is with his work online is a stretch, but you just gotta accept that. It's Prince. Prince is sometimes a jerk.

If you don't have any unreleased songs or boot concerts by Prince you have a right to say WTF!

If you do, STFU.

Its most likely fair use and at worst de minimus, harmless infringment of his sync rights. No one else enforces this.

No, but uploading a video containing copyrighted audio to a public platform IS Infringement (unless you have permission to do so, obviously)

I got two sides... and they're both friends.

Average person would not think of that when popping in their cd in the car and recording themselves for whatever reason. See the million of ussers on instagram and you tube. Word of mouth. Spread the word. It was innocent, if the intent was to infringe I wouldn't have botthered to hashtag his name and promote his ass. That simple.

Just because other people do it doesn't mean it's not copyright infringment.

Oh, so you were "promoting" him?! LOL - what a ridiculous thing to say. One of the most famous musicians on the planet and you think that he needs your "promotion". This is as ridiculous as your thread title. Listening to Prince in your car is not copyright infringment - PUBLICLY BROADCASTING his work most definitely is. Btw, you could substitute the word "average" in your above post with "dumb".

Thank God that you're not his promoter, because putting some shitty quality video and audio of the work is not the way to promote it. It's like faxing a photocopy of the Mona Lisa to show everyone what a great and finely detailed piece it is - which it clearly would not. Prince is simply protecting his art from diminished, poor-quality representation.

Next time you're out shopping, go in to a high-value clothing store, like Versace or Armani or something. Steal the clothes, put them on and leave - when you're pulled by the store detectives or whomever, try claiming that you were simply trying to promote their brand! I'm sure they would understand your oh-so-charitable intentions. Or why not go to a cinema and record something like Star Wars on your mobile phone and then re-transmit that publicly - see how long it will be before Lucasfilm (or Disney) are on your case.

Copyright exists for a reason and it is to protect the value (artistically and financially) of someone's life work and your excuses as to why you should be allowed to circumvent this law are laughable at best.

He would only need to employ those defences if he was being sued. He isn't - it was merely requested to be taken down.

"No one else enforces this" is utter rubbish. LOTS of artists seek to protect their work lawfully. The extents differ and Prince draws a harsh line.....but that is his right. It's not paranoia, the industry is being sucked dry and artists are completely entitled to protect their work.

you got off lightly

i decided to make a video of me singing "the ride" while i was driving ... as soon as i hit record on the video camera my car was sucked up by a huge spaceship... it was then dropped off in a strange, barren place known as thiefland, where i was forced to eat bugs and drink raw sewerage for 3 weeks before i released back into society

it was for my own good though

Thank You. I cannot understand why this is so hard to understand. You cannot use a copyright work without permission and usually you have to pay for it. This is a source of income for him.

It's that simple. I understand the frustration though, given very few artists are as strict as P. I've had covers of mine taken down by his publishing in the past.
