yep. i agree. the only reason we get PR30 is because of Prince getting his masters back and the release of PE/AOA She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo

They can use the Grammys as a marketing/promo tool for this reissue. Case in point: Michael's Thriller 25 in 2008. Check me out and add me on:

Neither WB or Prince have said that other remasters than PR would be release!

Yeah, like anyone who cares is sat at home thinking:
Sign'o'The Times that is an album that NEEDS a remaster.

The fact that a press release hasn't come out regarding this reissue says everything. It should be out now if WB are gearing for a November release. Hell, it should've been out this summer, by early August. Check me out and add me on:

Maybe he actually did cease the moment, while simultaneously failing to seize the moment. [Edited 10/19/14 6:40am]

Dearly beloved We are gathered here today to find out why the Purple Rain reissue hasn't been announced yet??

It's going to november in a few weeks. I guess i just want it in my hands already. hopefully with some cool extras I think they're doing it in ways you don't like strictly to irritate you...regardless of how it may boost or deflate sales.

only going by the information that's been presented before us. If prince wants to remaster older stuff then fine but he has shown no interest in it so far She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo

Still may happen, but P's odd views about his catalogue and not looking back may very we'll spoil what should've been something wonderful !!!!!

Why would Warners give him back his entire catalog and only make him agree to remaster Purple Rain? Stupid. Make it so, Number One...

I believe WB will release it around Christmas to cash in on the holiday season. Had they released it this summer, it would have competed with AOA & 3EG. It would either rob those 2 albums of sales, or vice versa. Prince could get people to buy 2 albums at once, 3 would be a stretch. By December, people will have forgotten about the 2 new CDs, and will be buying the PR remaster as a gift. The holiday season is notorious for a deluge of "greatest hit" packages and remasters, etc.
As for what it will have, I think that's anyone's guess, except Prince. My guess is the album on disc 1, and 3-4 outtakes and the b-sides on disc 2.

There will be more remasters before Prince gets his masters back, at least I hope so Welcome 2 The Dawn

I have a feeling the SNL appearance will have something to do with the Purple Rain anniversary... Guess we'll wait and see...

So he'll do some PR material with 3eg? Or with the NPG? Or with revolution members? . These sound not so likely or even like dreamland material.

At this stage now i don’t believe in a release of Purple rain remastered or whatever this year or after..There is no pre-promo. ..no news in the media since last april...not a single word from Warner. ...and we know there will not be a promo from Prince. ..The project is dead. ....this is just my feeling now and not an insiders scoop or whatever!

So is that something new, something to show of and something that works as promotion? Only if 3EG would do the long Hallway Speech version of Computer Blue it would be interesting. Or (additionally) any slightly unknown/unreleased PR track. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Remasters are not making any real cash for any label anymore. The huge releases like Purple Rain might make a bit of a dent, but save for 1999, and hopefully SOTT, there isn't going to be a huge demand....
Other than die hards, there are no average Joe Prince fans sitting at home waiting on a Lovesexy remaster, or a symbol album remaster...
I remember somebody made a post about the MILLIONS of copies a Dirty Mind remaster would sell...
Really? Dirty Mind? It sold around 500,000 the first time around, and at least half of that was bandwagon Purple Rain fans who wanted to buy his older albums...
I'd love to see all the albums from 1978-1992 remastered as they all need it, but I hardly expect much. Let's hope I'm wrong.

So that is why the US economy, no, the world economy (excluding EM) is in a slump? I mean: why do these masterpieces(tm) no longer attract sales? It is a sign of the times(!) for you(!) to figure out. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

True, but there are plenty of artists and bands whose entire catalogs have been remastered and some of these acts never sold as much as Prince. It may not be a big moneymaker for the labels, but it's something that should still be done.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Sure, it SHOULD be done...but will Prince AND Warners both be motivated to provide something that is anything short of the Cash Cow they both desire? The first non-blockbuster album to be remastered and not sell well will be the end of the remaster series. They should do like the Beatles, and make one big box set with everything from 1978-1994 or so...and then just do individual releases for the 3-4 big sellers...so the diehards like us at least can get the lesser albums.

Love this idea , someone tell Prince please
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Almost every single good marketing idea I have had, about Prince's career, was probably never even considered by the powers that be...and at most of my jobs... my good ideas have been rejected...and every single time my ideas were rejected...the end result is usually substantial failure for the dumb idea they went with instead. Not always, but usually. Ha!

There could be a press release tomorrow, who knows. AOA was announced about a month before release, no? There's still time for a 2014 release. ("That's right Christie, keep telling yourself that")

I bet it comes out, and just hope it is acceptable, and not so loud that the sound is ruined. I don't want the old albums to be too quiet, and the new ones too loud, but it seems strking a good balance is not gonna happen, but I hope!
