I was there in the late 70's and i still follow his music..........I like both albums but really lean toward PlectrumElectrum.........but i am confused Prince's fans do not give him the same respect and reverence as Springsteen, U2,etc, most of the time you get bitching, whining and asinine comments.......everyone has an opinion but if its negative about In my opinion one of the most talented musicians ever then what is the point on being on this fan website?

People always focus on the negative, that's generally human nature. I try not to bash the PE album b/c I do see a lot of people seem to genuinely like it, which is good, but I had such high hopes for it & it just falls flat for me, so I try to express that as unugly as possible. I don't think it's a failure by any stretch of the means, but it it fails to hit a home run for me, probably b/c of my own own expectations.

Perhaps I'm in the minority but I actually like

  1. Tictactoe
  2. Anotherlove
  3. Wow
  4. Plectrumelectrum
  5. Stopthistrain
  6. Whitecaps
  7. Pretzelbodylogic
  8. Fixurlifeup

altho not a fan of Marz, Ainturn, Boy Trouble, or FunknRoll. In my opioning he could have yanked Gold Standard and FunknRoll from AOA and replaced them with Ticktac and Anotherlove. Wow, Plectrum, WhiteCaps, and StopthisTrain wold have been nice additions

PE stars

Good, I'm glad it's 2 stars. Many people here went crazy for PE. It's not a good album at all.

It is a huge flop and it's on his way becoming his second lowest selling album of all time behind N.E.W.S.

You don't like it - fine. You are perfectly entitled to your opinion.

Your second statement, however, is completely meaningless and irrelevant - sales figures are no reflection on quality. So what if it would be his worst selling? Many of the best albums ever produced were not best-sellers by any means. I couldn't care if it only sold 20 copies. What matters is whether I enjoy it or not.

It's RS, not exactly known for its artistic integrity these days. That said I am not a big fan of PLEL. The review does end by saying his genius is intact.

So far AOA has a meta critic score just a little lower than Musicology.

2 Stars is pretty generous forPE as that album is a real stinker!! AOA is ok with me. Its not is best work but definately not his worst. I can live with it. I would give it 3 stars out of 5. Totally off subject, I got the new Billy Idol cd today and its GREAT!! Idol fans pick this up!! I think its the #2 album of the year!! 4 to 4 1/2 stars!! Glad to see him back!!

This "review" is a complete travesty. As a longtime RS subscriber I am outraged. I mean WTF?! They just placed the U2 album in the lead slot with an extended 5-star(!) review. Then with Prince putting out his first album in four years (many more than that for a usual channels release), having him reunited with WB and putting out two albums simultaneously, they they relegate it to the interior of the reviews section with a superficial cursory review?! It is outrageous and irresponsible. It's also inexplicable because they have continued to often give Prince ink in the news, photos and other coverage. What the hell happened? All I can think of is they were miffed not to get copies far in advance of publication. But this castoff treatment for a living legend and one of the all-time greatest rock/funk/pop stars? Complete rock journalism meltdown IMO.

If you've got funk, you've got style.

Just noticed that they removed all the comments from this review which were very harsh on RS for good reason
The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Remember there is only one destination and that place is U
All of it. Everything. Is U.

You overlook the fact that the mainstream press and recording industry hate Prince. Just like Bart.

Erm, he's had nothing but praise and glowing reviews.all year in the UK - firstly for the Hit and Run tour and now for the album releases (with just 1 or 2 lukewarm exceptions). In the UK and Europe he gets plenty of love from the press. So, your statement isn't quite correct!

Wow, two paragraphs for 2 whole albums. Rolling Stone with their extensive, indepth reviews there.

I know, what happened with their extensive reviews from the 1980s? They used to go into so much detail in music, I recall their review of Madonna's Like A Prayer was ace and some of Prince's albums too.
