If I believe in constant quality? Well, it's something worth striving for.

I'm not sure why you bring it up, though of course Prince's output these last few years has certainly been of a 'constant quality'.

I mean that the release of a remastered PR might not have the same quality (whatever dimension measured) as a remastered 1999 when e.g. mr P drops out of the project due to lack of interest.

So I hope he did not get his dough as a lump sum.

Aha, yes.

We can only hope and pray. Let Prince concentrate on his new music, let WB handle the vault. That way, everybody is happy.

No, I'd say you're being a realist.

As much as I love it "Extraloveable" will probably never see the light of day due to the rape lyrics.

I made my own edit of Extraloveable that is missing that part, you can't even tell it's gone. Prince could do the same, would any of us really complain?

Keep your headphones on.

is it really that hard to remaster his albums from 1978-1988, with deluxe editions for 1999, PR and SOTT???

yes, because it's Prince we're talking about neutral

The sound quality is awful. I believe i bought the cd right after automatic was included and sold my version minus automatic. The sound quality of automatic compared to the rest is really poor, like someone added it from his TDK tape

That's not the way it works. Since P has control of the masters, he is the one that is in control of the content of any reissues.

It would be cool to get full concerts of each tour or some unreleased and unbootlegged material from each album's era.

It would actually be an easy thing to do.I wish Prince would take a year off and devote all his attention to remastering his catalog (and releasing some concert DVDs,too). The only thing that's stopping this from happening? He apparently lives "in the now" and doesn't care about what he did in the past rolleyes

Well, one day we might get remasters, some unreleased songs, and new music too. But that one day can be in a galaxy, far, far, away.

lol what Prince doesn't seem to realize is that, most of his longtime, diehard fans are getting old (just like he is).He needs to release the remasters while we're still able to get up and dance to 'em,lol.

Judging by the mastering of AOA and PE, I would rather P didnt go near the remastering process and instead left it a WB appointed engineer qualified to do such things properly.

Does Prince own his masters yet anyway? Dont WB have to release a remaster first before he gets ownership?

WB and/or P were serious they would already have set up a preorder thing for a box set of the remasters. (multiple)

1978 until 1990 in fresh packaging, pristine audio, remixes, B-sides, alternates, etc.

But of course they do not see any money anywhere.

I don't think the remasters will even make it to 1999. Purple Rain is happening, but WB will probably wait to see how sales go before considering 1999, SOTT, etc. Even then, PR probably won't come with the amazing bonus material everyone's speculating about, probably just a bonus disc with God, Let's Go Crazy [Extended Dance Mix Thingie], Erotic City, and some movie tracks. Don't expect a shower of unreleased goodness all over your face, neck, and chest. No one really cares but us. Everyone who loves Purple Rain already owns it without complaint.

Warner Bros. Records revealed the reissue plans today when they announced a new agreement with the star which will, to quote the press release, “see the release of long-awaited, previously unheard material, while giving the artist ownership of the master recordings of his classic, global hits.”

If WB have done their job right, the masters will have been returned with demands. So he is not in absolute control.

If they failed to do this, then it's OCCUPY Paisley Park AND Warner Brothers-time.

If WB have done their job truly right they did not hand over anything yet nor give him any money.

They would ask him to deliver his part of the deal for one remastered album and only then give him those masters and a part of the money agreed upon.

After that the same arrangement is used for a second album remaster, and so on.

So no lump sum, no one time delivery of all masters, etc.

Itunes lists NPG records as copyright holder. Prince owns his masters.

I would love the inclusion of the single versions...mixes with fades and whatnot...I always loved the "cut to the chase", approach of whoever editted those (prince himself?), also, that great single version of "Let's Go Crazy", you know, the one where all the voices in the intro run together...i LOVE the album versions, but those edits are so neat! biggrin

Of ALL of his 80s albums, 1999 is probably the one that contains the most "offensive" content (to current-day Prince). I don't know how that would factor in to the remasters. Same goes for Dirty Mind . . . funny, 2 of his best albums that might miss out on remasters -- uncensored -- because of his current beliefs.

.

Purple Rain is a much tamer album, no cursing (save for B-sides) and only the mention of masturbating which is not really offensive.

Apparently even the word 'intercourse' is now offensive.
