A Remastered, Supplmnted 1999 would be AWESOME.

Could you imagine? Instead of he tinny, low-balanced versions of 1999 available now you'd get 1999, Little Red Corvette, Delirious, Automatic, Let's Pretend We're Married, Free, International Lover, D.M.S.R., Something In The Water, Lady Cad Driver, and All The Critics Love U In New York LOUD and BALANCED for once. Also, all the b-sides and unrealeased tracks from the era like MOONBEAN LEVELS, EXTRALOVABE, TURN IT UP, FEEL U UP, HORNY TOAD, MORAL MAJORITY, POSSESSED, IRRESISITIBLE BITCH, etc.Plus, a sound board recording of one of the legendary 1999 tour concerts!!!!I would pay BIG BUCKS for this...Come on, Warner....come on, Prince...

From what I remember, the 180g vinyl reissue of 1999 was supposed to be remastered.

Well, if we get them, I don't want them mastered like Plect Elect. Music should not be mastered too quiet, or too loud. You've got to strike the right balance. Mid 90's mastering was as good as it will likely get, since now, it's all brickwalled to death.

It's really not, and won't be until We get details on Purple Rain 30.

I think the remasters could go one of two ways.. and really it comes down to who is running the project.

Meaning, of coarse Prince has the final say so, but if Prince himself is the one running it completely, I think we will just get the albums remastered. Not throwing shade at P at all, but we all know P doesn't like looking back, asking him to repackage his 1980's albums with outtakes, extended mixes, live takes, etc.. I just see P getting bored with that really quickly.

However, If a team at WB are in charge of the packaging/material, I think we will get a little more. Probably a regular version for casual fans, and a deluxe version for hardcores. I wish, as i'm sure we all do, that they pull all the stops. A release like Bruce Springsteens "Darkness On The Edge of Town" box set would be awesome. Which if WB is calling the shots, I could see happeneing bc that means more money for them.

A box set like Bruce's is a pipe dream, but one with a tiny chance of happening....if WB can convince him it's the only way to profit. Remaster sales for the industry have been horrible. Multi-disc sets are almost the only ones with any profit margin. Single disc remasters sit in the bargin bins for 4.99/5.99, and some of these are former huge sellers. And it hurts me to have to remind us all that Prince really only had 4 big selling albums...5 if you count Batman.

But I'd bet on a two disc version of the big sellers, and no remasters for anything after SOTT...except maybe DAP. So that hurts...maybe no Lovesexy tracked with good sound sad

When/where did he say this? If it is true, then I have zero interest in the remaster. I have PR already, and to my unsophisticated ears, sounds fine as is. I imagine most people who already own Purple Rain would say the same.

He didn't say that, although his comments in the interview alluded to it in a frightening way. He said something like "The songs are the same as they always were, but if the fans want to hear them again, I guess I can understand that" - something along those lines.

I find it really frightening how people can extrapolate on other people's words. If u take the Prince statement above and dissecate it word by word there is NOTHING that suggests that they will or won't be any bonus material, he's simply speaking about the original album. Some people need psychiatric help. I'm sorry but it's true.

So far the only mention of bonus material is the WB press release and it says there will be some.

Peace.

Here's what he said (quote from ABCnews.com):

He's working on a re-release of the epic "Purple Rain" album for its 30th anniversary, but when asked if he's excited about it, he flatly says no.
"Same album, just state-of-the-art sound," he says. "It's nice that it sounds better for the fans but I live in the now. I don't have to go backwards to celebrate."

The good news is that ?estlove probably feels the same way we do about these bonus tracks, b-sides, re-mastering, etc. He's our proxy spokesman. I've gotta believe he's been bugging Prince directly about giving up the goods. That's got to count for something.

Theres nothing there that says there will be no bonus material. He is simply stating he doesnt have much interest in it. WB have stated there will be bonus material and unheard songs. I presume contractually he is obligued to give them something more than just the album, hence the press release stating such.

That's not quite a statement saying there will be no bonus material. As usual he's just on his usual "the past is over, I live in the now" bollocks, I wouldn't take it as an indicator of anything else at all.

I definitely think a 1999 remaster is possible. Of all his albums other than Purple Rain, this one is the most likely to be re-done.
Would LOVE all the B-sides, Moonbeam Levels, etc., the Extended dance mix of Little Red Corvette, the extended "Delirious"
As much as I love it "Extraloveable" will probably never see the light of day due to the rape lyrics.
Never heard "Moral Majority". Turn it up, Feel U Up, Irresistible Bitch (demo), Possessed would be INCREDIBLE to have in improved quality.

Sadly, I think the extras will just be b-sides and previously released mixes. Nothing from the vaults. Lower your expectations.

1999 remastered should be a 2 disc set minimum:

- album

- all 12" versions

- outtakes, alternate versions

.

You know the drill. Please name songs and timings so we cna see if we need a third disc.
