It's already one of my all-time favorite songs of his. The only other time that I've heard whatever I'm hearing in his voice is 4 The Tears in Your Eyes.

These 2 homes r 2 diffent kinds... I believe...but... In a million days he says, "wherever you are is home.." A decade later, it seems Prince realises its not so simple and easy. That something so central takes work, effort, and introspection. Not just "being".

Way Back Home said: Any person or object whatsoever That requires your attention Is something that has veered from its path And preordained destiny of total enlightenment I never wanted a typical life scripted role, huh...trophy wife All I ever wanted, to b left alone See my beds made up at night Cuz in my dreams I roam Just trying to find, trying to find My way back, back home So many reasons why There's so many reasons why I don't belong here But now that I am I Without fear I am Gonna conquer with no fear Until I find my way back home Until I find my way back home Find my way back home Most people in this world are born dead But I was born alive I was born with this dream With a dream outside my head That I could find my way back home My my way way back home Is this the way? Power to the ones, power to the ones who could raise a child like me The path was set But if u look the truth will set us free I've heard about those happy endings But it's still a mystery Lemme tell u about me I'm happiest when I can see My way back home Can u see my way back home Can u see my way back home I'd do more songs, but transposing lyrics gets testy on a celly...

Very questionable singing style. The "Lions of Judah" syndrome says hello again.

I agree....sad to say, but i think this song is about his child. The beat seems to incorporate a heartbeat, much like Sex In The Summer. His "trophy wife" has been on the TV talking about their child recently. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

yeah, i'm hard pressed to find another song with him THIS introspective and contemplative. I thought of Free but that's about America (Cold War with Russia), and the other comparisons being brought up are about love, his child, a scorned lover, bad relationship, but nothing about HIM on this level to my memory. Song is instantly Top 10 for me!

It sounds like he's referring to two things at once, comparing his painful experience of feeling rejected by his parents as a kid (particularly the phone booth call to his father, who would not allow him back) and basically straying from God's "home" when he was a young man (the regrets referenced in The Breakdown) -- God's home is "The Truth".
He's saying he was always a loner, that those who raised him had quite a task, he was destined to be on a path to total enlightment. It's still a mystery (still takes work) but he's happiest when he sees God's path from where he is, the way back home. [Edited 10/5/14 6:19am]

Just sounds like he is talking about, while being in the physical for now, and conquering his destiny without fear, until he is called home. Home = God, apparently according to Prince's perspective.

Interesing thread about such a beautiful song. I like all the different interpretations. The last verse about raising a child, the path being set, and happy endings being a mystery sound like they could absoluytely be references to Gregory. What a thought provoking song.
