stillwaiting said: It's a decent album. The female vocal songs drag it down several notches...and the mastering is so horrible, it sounds louder on volume 15 in my car than other cds do on volume 25. And no matter what volume, the distorted brickwalled sound is always there. AOA sounds bad too, but not as bad as PE. But why are they also the better tracks on the album? And you need to have your system checked out because it needs to be fixed. So go over to KMart tomorrow and get that checked..mkay. Cuz the CD sounds great on my system. Sorry the CD is not the same volume as your shit from K-tel records. What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

Are we discussing the music or the vocals? Pick one and discuss it. Don't mix topics when Im discussing one thing specifically. . And this isn't rocket science dude. If you don't like how she sound get over it and don't listen to it as you would any artist who has a voice you dislike. She's singing on the album because Prince obviously asked her to, as he's done plenty of other non-singers to do in the past. You act like this is all new to you or something. Sheila E didn't sing before Prince convinced her to, and plenty of people liked her music with him and she's definitely one of his most successful protege acts ever.. . And while no one knows Prince's plan for these songs live, plenty of drummers drum and sing live.. Phil Collins, Don Henley, Ringo Starr, Roger Taylor, Dave Grohl.. etc etc etc etc Change it one more time..

I was commenting on your attempt to make excuses for hannah by saying "she's not a singer" so we shouldn't judge her. She's either a singer or not, but if she's not, she shouldn't be singing. I honestly like her singing far more than her drumming. That tic tac toe song tho is retarded. It's like saying Stevie Wonder can't play piano because he is blind. A blind person could likely play tic tac toe, chess or even scrabble far better than most people with sight. It is one of the reasons 3eg come off as a high school band. The lyrical content is beyond stupid and ignorant and just plain dumb. PBR makes jughead sound like mozart. What is super funny is that 3eg simply cant exist without prince. P wants everyone to think it is the girls thang, but LIVE they would not stand a chance without prince. It would be a gas to watch them try tho. Playing only the songs that hannah sings while she plays drums live. LOL I wanna catch a bootleg vid of that. It would be funnier than an episode of new girl, that's for sure.

Debbie Harry's voice worked for alt rock. CHrisse Hyde's voice worked for alt rock. Even Dale Bozzio's voice worked for alt rock. Or least what was alt rock before the term was coined. Hannah is just bad singing - alt, punk, metal, or otherwise. [Edited 10/13/14 7:00am]

A poorly mastered recording is a poorly mastered recording. Sounds like shit on Bose, Sony, and my Denon. And I own thousands of cds. I can't find another one that sounds this bad...although Rush's original Vapor Trails is almost as bad...
If you have enough computer skills to search Rush Vapor Trails, you can learn something today. If you really think PlectElect is an awsomely mastered recording, than I suggest you get your ears checked.

It is surely a great album, I personally get around the sub par female vocals (on most tracks), by reveling in the fact that the songs themselves are fantastic.
In my opinion though, 3EG vocals are best suited as a supplement to Prince on lead. Unless it is IDA yelling stuff in Danish, which is pretty rad. "You always get the dream that you deserve, from what you value the most" -Prince 2013

Isn't Ida a decent singer, wonder why they didn't just let her do the singing, maybe just the age thing? I think she sounds better than Hannah imo.

Tictactoe - You've taken a metaphor interpreted it literally and then said "see it doesn't make sense". Which is ironic given the point of the song. Thats like hearing Scarlet Pussy and saying "Red cats don't exist" this song makes no sense.
Again mate... Prince has never said he wants 3rdeyegirl to operate independant of him. They're his backing band. You've created in your head a world where 3rdeyegirl are a band who want to operate without Prince. All Prince has said is that they're great players. There has been literally no mention of them as an independant group. [Edited 10/13/14 9:46am]

SuperFurryAnimal said: Nonsense! It is a great album. Listen to TicTacToe that is a great track. If you think TicTacToe sucks go get a fucking hearing aid! I think TicTacToe is one of the most dreadful few minutes on a Prince album in quite some time, and not just because of Hannah's horrific warbling. The melody is so-so in that nursery rhyme kinda way Prince has and which works for me sometimes (see: All the Midnights in the World), but maaaaan those lyrics are too bad to get past - and we're all required to get past some pretty awful lyrics to get into Prince music these days. So fucking bad. And notice how I didn't have to disparage your hearing in order to voice my opinion? You like her singing, and that song.. and they both make me want to spew bile. That's how different opinions work. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

Anyone who wants to sing and gets paid for singing is a singer. It doesn't matter whether you like it or not. Does Macy Gray get paid for singing??? Yes, then she's a singer. Point blank. It doesn't matter whether you like her or not. It Bjork paid for singing? Yes? Then she's a singer? Was Patti Smith paid for singing? Yes? Then she's a singer. Was Yoko Ono paid for singing? Yes? Then she's a singer. Does it matter whether they sound like Celine Dion or Barbara Steisand? No. It doesn't. End of discussion. . As for the song writing, again, that has nothing to do with Hannah, so please pick a topic and stick to it. Are you blaming Prince for writing lyrics and arrangements and giving it to her? Or are you blaming her for singing them... even though that's what she's paid to do.. . And anyone who knows Prince's career knows that they're his band. Why the hell would anyone assume they could or would even want to exist without him? They didn't write anything, they were put together because of him? Their musical styles and interests are each very different from each other and probably would not even want to post their time with him. So your statement makes zero sense. Change it one more time..

I remember listening to Ida's last album and her vocals aren't bad either, but I think its a combo of Hannah being way more extroverted than anybody else in PP and she's younger and nicer on the eyes. So if he had to put someone out in public she's a more apt candidate. Change it one more time..
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I never said Hannah was not a singer. You DID! I said I wish people would stop making excuses for bad singing/music by saying "oh she's a drummer so it doesn't matter if her singing is bad".
3eg did write the songs with prince, sometimes without, see plectrum electrum the song, which was written before prince.

The girls have specifically said "Prince wrote these songs for us". I don't think they've mentioned writing songs with Prince.

I certainly understand what p+3 are trying to convey with the 'metaphor'. My point is that the metaphore is incredibly ignorant to the point where it ruins the song. P's opinion is that blind people are idiots who can't even play tic tac toe. Change the word blind to 'black' and see how it sounds to you then? or change the metaphor to people in wheelchairs playing basketball, or war amputees running marathons... here i'll do it for u ..
like a bunch of no legged people running a race .. watch as they fall on their face ..
it's just disrespectful to disabled people and baffling that prince would work a metaphor that puts disabled people in such a condescending light .. I don't know the word for racist when it comes to disabled people but if there was one this would fit. But ignorant and self bloated work fine for me.
I really wonder if p has the balls to play this for stevie wonder in person. BTW stevie can out play prince on every fucking instrument and songwriting and he is blind. FYI

No that's not his opinion. The lyric isn't "blind people are idiots" you are making that leap.
Again you're making HUGE leaps and attempting to imply a negative connotation which isn't there. You're now having to make up lyrics because the song doesn't give you enough amunition.
Blind people can't see. It's not an insult to state a fact. It's not even clear if it's literal blindness or a figurative blindness. Your comments in this thread are far more disrespectful to disabled people. [Edited 10/13/14 11:15am]

Let me paraphrase my statement sense ordinary speech seems to go over your head. Im saying she sings very well to not be someone who up until meeting Prince has just been a drummer. I never once said she was a bad singer. Carmen Electra is bad. Mayte was bad. Apollonia was bad. Hannah is ok. I like the songs she sings on and think she'll get better with time. . The only song not written by Prince is plectrumelectrum and another love. Again, you were criticizing the lyrics, and seemed to be implying that it's the girl's fault that Prince wrote them. Change it one more time..
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
so exactly what intelligence level is implied that a "a bunch" of blind people would sit around playing tic tac toe? . can a 'bunch' of people even play tic tac toe? I thought it was a 2 person game. . what other implication do you see possible when hannah sings "who knows where the o's and the x's goes?" immediately following the blind reference? . it sounds to me like the author is painting an absurd picture of sheer stupidity not only that a "bunch" of blind people would choose to sit around playing tic tac toe, but also that he suggests "who knows where the o's and x's go?" as if they are all just completely lost and have no idea what they are doing .. or where any of the o's and x's might be landing at any given time ..
. and what exactly is the 'metophor' p is trying to convey? (he wrote it right?) isn't it implying people fumbling around in the dark with no clue?
.
please tell me your interpretation because it paints a pretty stupid sounding scene at the blind "bunch"s expense .. in my opinion
.

Sigh. Well 4 people could be playing 2 games. If you want to be smart about it. But you're still completely missing the point on a rather spectaular scale.
No, again you're taking a metaphor and trying to make it literal. (HINT the song isn't about the game tictactoe)
ok - well at least we've established you're not 100% clear on what a metaphor is. A metaphor isn't something you convey rather you use a metaphor to convey something.
