I love the song too. Cool video. I was at the video shoot, the part where Prince is walking through what looks like a club. It was done in the Love 4 One Another room at Paisley Park.

Cool. You've been to a few video shoots I seem to recall. What was the best one? . I've always loved it, also the best track on the album for me

SexyMF was probably the best one. The parts in the garage at Paisley Park. eye Wanna Melt With U was an interesting one. At the time, I was like how is he ever going to release this one. Nude strippers everywhere.

Emancipation is up there with SOTT, dead serious! And it was 3 discs like SOTT failed to materialize.

Yeah Emancipation was ahead of its time. Great tracks on there that sound like today's music really. He was making 21st century sounds in the 20th century, albeit the last few years of the 20th century. smile

Bluu

I'm actually in the video for a whole second and a half, so the song has a special place in my heart. Got in on shots of the audience at his Jan. '97 concert at the Tower Theater in Philadelphia.

SoulAlive

It's a decent song, but it sounds very "ordinary",like most of the other songs on R&B radio in the mid-90s.Many of the R&B tracks on Emancipation had that same problem.

A somewhat boring, tinny, and forgettable track, IMHO. Seems like Prince forced himself to write a "radio-friendly" song and ended up with this.

That's how I feel. This track sounds like he was trying to compete with Babyface and R.Kelly, with a radio-friendly R&B track that lacks the distinctiveness that you expect from Prince.

Well, he sure did son those two. I think mainly you're hearing him ditch the new wave synths of the 80s and going with '90s keyboards.

So are many of you thinking that Prince knows how to write radio-friendly R&B tracks but perhaps these days chooses not to? I don't think he was competing with R Kelly and Babyface back then but perhaps he was just writing a song that just happened to be good smile

Livestudio mix is incredible

Agreed, destroys the weak sounding in comparison original. I always felt the song was kinda just 'there' until I heard that version. It actually sounds 'meant' smile .

Livestudio for me. I'd actually forgotten about the Ultrafantasy, though--just listened again and it sounds pretty nice.

.

Derick Hughes version just came on when I searched my files. This might beat the album version too.

So does it sound like it could have been a hit today in 2014 or does it still seem like a dated sound like some people accuse Emancipation of sounding too plastic and too dated?

No, I don't think I have heard that version of the song. Do any of you know if he performed this song live during his tours in the late 90s? I know the music video for the song shows him at a concert and I can assume that he performed the song there. Was this song on the setlist for the tour he was doing during the 96-98 era?

One of my all time favorite Prince songs. Back in 1996 I got the chance to see him preform it during the Love4OneAnother Tour. I can't remember if it was at the Rimac Arena in San Diego or The Pantages in Hollywood ...

Considering the length of each CD, wouldn't it had to have been 6 LP's?

It would have fit fine on 4xLP but it probably would have ruined the sequence.

Nope, never saw the Rosie O'Donnell performance but I'm sure it's floating around somewhere in the infamous vault.
