I pre-ordered and did not get to listen to the entire two albums until Sept. 30.

I've bought bootlegs in the past, but never got officially released tracks for free -- I just don't do that and think it's too detrimental to this thing I love: music. The bootlegs of unreleased stuff or concerts came after years of hearing about them, it felt like I was missing four chapters of a history book and I take history seriously.

Pre-ordered both on iTunes and even bought AOA on CD at Best Buy on Sept. 30.

Why are you limiting it to Americans? What's wrong with all the other people in the world who choose not to buy Prince albums because they are tight?

Don't blame WB for Prince being stubborn.

I choose to place blame when there are two INCREDIBLY STUPID parties doing everything they can do to sabotage a career. WB may not have as much blame as Prince, but they are far from without fault for mishandling a body of music unlike the world has ever seen. Whether you like the song or not, a trained goldfish could've heard The Most Beautiful Girl In The World, and figured it would at least be a Top 40 hit. When I first heard it, I figured #1 smash, but there was so much Prince overkill and oversaturation of the market, that it stalled in the Top 10, but remember, it was Warners who refused to release it.

After each album was selling less and less in the late 80's, they kept trying to flood the market, and hope for huge hits...both Prince and Warners are at fault for this. You can't say that a multi-million dollar corporation was so powerless to Prince that he fully controlled his career...they did stop Crystal Ball, they both together made boneheaded decisions one after another.

We still got great music from Prince, but the way it was presented and marketed prevented him from being a prolonged superstar, and he became way too associated with 1999 and Purple Rain. Great albums like SOTT and Parade didn't really sell that much, despite incredible music...

It takes two buffoons to ruin a career as wonderful as Prince...

And Prince is the biggest dummy here by far, but Warners is also a "Big Dummy"- Fred Sanford.

Time will tell the truth. Sometimes what is viewed as a being dumb now will be considered to be genius in the future. Prince chose the Prince route over the MJ route. More product/music to get out before music changed and made the Prince sound not as relevant. Had Prince waited in between albums we would have as many great albums to listen to now. Music over money was the real winner in this case.

Other than the odd young person who likes Prince, his music is largely loved by those over 40. Some in the 25-39 range, but under 25? Just a few. When I tell people how Prince is my favorite "Current" artist, they can't name a single song he has done in the last 15 years. Sure, we do not know what future generations will think of him, but it's not encouraging by the last few years for sure.

However, most Prince music seems timeless and I would place a bet that in 50 years he will be revered even more. If you look at history, the only few things that remain relevant through time, great music, great literature, and world leaders. Note: not actors, not dancers, not sports stars. Will Marilyn Monroe still be that popular in 100 years, probably not.

WB did give in to Prince a lot I think, probably because of his past successes and a general belief in his talent (or looking at it another way: too keep him sweet). They were very good to him with the amount of music they put out from him, including all his pet projects and proteges. You could consider that overkill and Warners obviously did themselves since there's a few occasions where they wanted him to pull back a bit and let things settle.

.

Decisions Prince made would often kill the momentum of a project, like not touring SOTT, or releasing Lovesexy too soon after that double LP then backing such a domestically poor selling album with a lavish, expensive tour. Not wanting to promote ATWIAD at all, etc, etc.

.

I imagine dealing with Prince was like treading on egg shells - look at what happened when communication finally did break down, he purposefully sabotaged his own career, cutting off his nose to spite his face. WB probably gave in to him a lot and stopped that happening sooner than it did. Maybe giving in to his demands over such a long period of time made him like a spoilt child, so they're guilty of that certainly.

I wish he would promote them more though, but why ain't Warners as well. Its like they don't want them to sell? Still it takes two to Tango.

.

But it feels like Prince has thrown two blank discs at us and said "Here's some music, I don't really care if u like it or not, but whinge about it and expect me to sue yo ass".

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I'm in no way interested in this new album, unfortunately. I love Prince and constantly listen to everything all the way to Musicology, but after that I've fallen off. I've hardly even listened to any of this new album. sad I was at WalMart the other day and walked by the CD section and saw P's new album and thought, "Oh, there's Prince!" ----- but then walked on by and continued shopping.

Uh, no it isn't. I've been a fan since I was nine and continue to be one, I just don't care about the new stuff. I've been disappointed too many times and so no longer look forward to the "new". I'm just being honest.

So what would we have if Prince had matched years of release with MJ, starting in 1979 with Off The Wall and then matching years up to Invincible?

1979 - Prince
1982 - 1999
1987 - Sign o' the Times
1991 - Diamonds & Pearls
1995 - The Gold Experience
2001 - The Rainbow Children

That's not actually a bad list but where's Dirty Mind? Where's Parade? Where's Purple Rain? Now let's look at the Prince releases from Off The Wall to Bad in 1987.

Prince
Dirty Mind
Controversy
1999
Purple Rain
Around The World In a day
Parade
Sign o' the Times

Which of those releases should have been missed to follow the MJ pattern?

RIP sad

I bought both CDs from WB. I also have preorders in for the vinyl of both through Amazon.

I can't say I've played PE much. In fact I haven't played either much. I've bought better albums lately so obviously have listened to them more. Thinking about it Ive played the Led Zeppelin IV remaster more this last week than I have Plectrum Electrum in total. Let's face it, up against material like that he had no chance smile

And the story goes that ringers bought plenty of copies in order to get the song to chart. There were rumors of a warehouse in Minneapolis filled with copies.

.

I love TMBGITW, BTW, but it was a completely unexpected hit.

.

After each album was selling less and less in the late 80's, they kept trying to flood the market, and hope for huge hits...both Prince and Warners are at fault for this. You can't say that a multi-million dollar corporation was so powerless to Prince that he fully controlled his career...

.

They obviously had some power, but considering that even Prince's managers often had little power over their client...

.

.

Wasn't WBR who decided not to tour SOTT in the USA. Etc.

.

I'm not syaing they're blame-free, but Prince just wasn't cooperating.

As if that is the only option. Moreover, you're comparing two different things: MJ was already a star at the time of Off The Wall. (Also, where are The Jacksons' Triumph and Victory?)
