Strange Relationship: What do you love and hate about Prince? This whole Yahoo thing a few days ago left me wondering why many of us continue to love Prince and why it seems some of you hate him. Tell us why you love Prince and why you hate him. I'll start!
Love him: Musical genius and will never have another Hate him: Inconsistent with album releases the past few years and refusal to work with Bruno Mars

I've always admired his work ethic, the fact that he has always released music and been a recording artist (even though I've mostly hated the results), I like the fact he has given me AOA, and above all I like his refusal to work with Bruno Mars (a boat that leaves me on the island).
Hate?...nothing, dude ain't done anything worth hating to me. [Edited 10/5/14 8:28am] don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

I don't hate anything about Prince. Hate is a strong word. I don't like the way he has treated fans and fan sites over the years. I don't like some of the things he produces, like the Yahoo live stream or albums like Planet Earth. But none of this means I hate anything about Prince. What do I love? His music. The fact that he still engaged in giving us new songs and touring all the time. He's not D'Angelo or Sly, you know? And the fact that he opens up Paisley often for shows. I went to many concerts at Paisley in the late 90s/early 00s, and they were amazing. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

What I love: single-minded multi-talent makes things happen on his own terms without much of a care about the current state of things. Because of that I get things I like and don't like, it's a given that it's not about me or you, but about him the artist, as it should.
What I hate: his crusty old fans that seem to be just as self-absorbed as he is, but that don't give anything in return except their pompous disapproval and long laments about them not getting what they want but damn sure-they-'ll-keep-an-eye-on-it-all-and-piss-all-over-anything-Oh-my-undelivered-tshirt-Oh-my-never-received-Puck O'-Crystal-Ball-Oh-my-"lifetime"-membership-Oh-how-I-have-suffered-dear-lord-is-there-any-end-to-my-martyrdom?

Love/Like: These days, Prince IS real music in general! When it comes to black music history, Prince is an encyclopedia in flesh. He is a R&R HOFer in the USA. When it comes to The Funk, Prince is one of the last True Funk Soliders let standing thus far. And of course, Prince IS The MPLS sound.

Love: His music and artistry Hate: His stans; I hate their insistence that he's the greatest artist of all time and is absolutely untouchable

Love: his work ethic / his musicianship / his showmanship / his fantastic run of albums in the 80's Hate: how he treats people sometimes (including his fans) / how he locks himself up in PP with sycophants/ the way he conducts his business often / not challenging himself enough to work with the best people in the industry to get the best final product out (capable professionals in their specific field who challenge him and tell him in his face when something is bad and should be done differently). The latter bothers me the most, I would love it if he would overcome his ego and started working with the best professionals in the field (musicians, producers, sound engineers etc.) to help him get the most out of his extraordinairy talents. Exactly what his co-superstars Madonna and Michael Jackson have always done. Prince just seem to like the 'genius' label a bit too much and might be afraid to destroy his "written, arranged, performed & produced by Prince" legend by having a hit album again with the help of a wellknown producer for example. [Edited 10/7/14 8:28am] [Edited 10/7/14 8:31am] RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Love: His uncompromising vision of how he wants to present himself as an artist against all odds. I love how he can take the worst criticism from his own fans down to the old Rick James vile comments that attacked him as a man and an artist and just let it roll right off his back. Just think of all he could have said back.
Hate: How he is already bored with a project before we can catch up. I dislike this more than hate it.

I didn't realize that he has actually been turned down before himself, as naive as that sounds. It seems that I am always viewing things from a perspective of him turning others down himself. I didn't realize that Jodeci was also on his reject list. Do tell more about this Devante issue as well Trolls be gone!

Even though hindsight is 20/20, Devante should have KNOWN that he was going to be rejected because the "thug passion" schtick that Jodeci had/has was not going to cut it with Prince, the total opposite. I mean, really Devante? LOL. I guess this was after Jodeci hit it big, right? Trolls be gone!

CORRECTION: 2 years before Jodeci was signed with Uptown/MCA Records (today known as Universial).

Did Jodeci ever sample any of Prince's work once they hit it big? I think it's funny how Prince snubbed/snubs a lot of those type of R&B groups. LOL Trolls be gone!

Love: his groundbreaking 80s albums...his obvious musical talent and amazing concerts Hate: the fact that he doesn't care about remastering his old albums or releasing concert DVDs,and that he doesn't even understand (or care) why his fans desperately want that stuff
