Lyrics of Prince author, C. Liegh McInnis, has a review of AOA and PlecElec posted at B. K. Nation.org. The sub-title is "When Is Change Visionary, and When Is Change Selling-Out?" Unfortunately, I am unable to cut and paste anything into a thread, but if you go to bknation.org and type C. Liegh McInnis in the search engine the site will go to a list of articles written by McInnis with the review of AOA and PlecElec at the top. It is a long and thorough review, with the gist being that while he is not fond of Prince singing over a track like a mix tape or making songs that seem to fit well on 106 & Park, he recognizes the creativity, beauty, and power of most of the songs, which shows that Prince is still more eclectic, diverse, funky, and rocking than most. Also, McInnis quotes Murph's description of how Prince added to Mila J's song "Blinded," which is only noteworthy because Murph's description was provided on Prince.org. Murphy is given credit in the endnotes.

Thanks for posting the link to the article for me. McInnis has provided endnotes that list the names of two of the three college students, and the poet that he quotes is a recent college grade. For his research, he sent links of "FunknRoll" and "U Know" to fifty college students as well as to two local DJs who work mostly hip hop events, but he only received a handful of comments and simply used the few that represented the general feelings of the respondents. He and I worked at the same university, but now I work at a different college. However, I see him a great deal at local poetry readings and other literary events. So, from talking with him, the quotes seem to reflect the bulk of the feedback that he received. I also got the same feedback from young folks that I know. Hope this helps.

McInnis is teaching at Jackson State University, and I'm at Tougaloo College for this year. I like working with students but am finding it difficult to write and teach a full load so I might decide to teach just a half load next year or not at all to dedicate more time to writing.

I actually read it as "interesting" and didn't notice that it was really "interfering" so it didn't bother me. I know that McInnis connects with Kevin Powell, Tony Medina, and Ekere Tallie who are all NYC-based writers. In fact, B. K. Nation.org is co-edited by Powell with a couple of other great writers. And, Powell is really great friends with Charlie Braxton, another great Mississippi poet, playwright, and essayist. So, there is a small but steady connection between NYC and Mississippi.
