Different Strokes for Different Folks is one reason Prince is Brilliant. I have been reading through a lot of the threads and seeing things like "AOA is so much better than PE" and "PE is great, AOA is crap!" and "PE is way better than Chaos and Disorder!" to which someone else replies "NO! C & D is way better than PE!." etc.....
It is obvious that Prince has so many different sides to him and his music that there will be many diffeernt opinions. And thats what is great about him. Every album is different so it'll hit different people different ways. Arguing about which is the superior album is like arguing about what is the best color or what is the most delicious food. Would you want everyone to have the exact same tastes as you?
So it is wonderful that there are two very different albums out there. Some like one way better than another and some (like me) are settling into loving them both for different reasons/different moods.
It reminds me of all the reviews of Emancipation which said it would have been a much better album if edited to a double or single disc. Then they would list which songs should stay and which should go and every review picked different songs!! Sometimes the exact opposites from one review to the next.. So you can't please everyone all the time.
We should enjoy the fact that we got two very different albums and hope lots more will be on the way! [Edited 10/2/14 14:37pm]

That's how I believe you learn the most. The more secure the opinion, regardless of its position, the more there is to glean. I don't believe anymore that anyone can change someone's mind. All you can hope to do is express your honest viewpoint and perhaps every now and again add something to someone else's unique alternative.

Pretty much sums it up. . I've found for every song I absolutely detest, there's multiple people here who love it, so go figure. And it works both ways, lots of songs I love others hate, so we're all just super different in what we like, & we often cross paths & like the same things, ya just never know.

The thing with Emancipation was an eye opener. Sure each of us could edit it down to a perfect album for ourselves, but it would be one that would not work for other fans. I'll take 2 or 3 disc and pick my own favorites anytime over 1 disc with Prince's or another fans opinion as to the best tracks... Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

I've said this often, I'd always rather have more. The fact that Prince can put Breakfast Can Wait on an album proves he's not to be trusted with my single disc collections. RIP

Nah, through the years I have learned that Prince FAMS deliberately confuse the issue. Like if I was to say "Live 4 Love" is a bad song. Someone would swear it's their favorite Prince song and they never understood the hype about that awful "Little Red Corvette" song. Then two more FAMS would post a "Yeah That" sign and you just have to scratch your head. Janet fans do the same thing. Madonna fans. MJ fans. Beyonce fans. Bieber fans. EVERYTHING is a MASTERPIECE. But the albums are still so new that no one's opinion is that valid yet. I hated PE last week, and now I like it a little, and AOA is the terrible album.

Nicely written thread. People need to read / listen and chill. My taste changes so much on my mood. Sometimes I really really dig a Prince album. Sometimes I hate them. But I always go back to them. No other artist has that draw for me. That's magic love is touching souls

"It is obvious that Prince has so many different sides to him and his music that there will be many diffeernt opinions. And thats what is great about him." Couldn't someone say that for just about any artist?
