Doesn't that argument also apply to Purple Rain? PR should be what it is because thats what it was supposed to be. Prince had a lazer focus on THE best album he could make. He stripped out any filler and managed to edit his own work (computer blue). [Edited 10/3/14 15:59pm]

We'll know when that day of the release comes whenever that may be. Its all speculation now, it could just be the same 9 songs with better sound etc....I still say it should be left 9 tracks and then have a bonus disc not a real fan of tacking on songs just to make the cd long, that was what the 90's was about for EVERY ARTIST, hey we gotta fill 80 minutes, lets do 14 songs skits sound effects and puppet voices. He didn't say there wouldn't be extra tracks. You're reading way too much into him trying to actively play down the release. It was announced as having unreleased tracks. As usual, Prince is the least reliable source when it comes to his plans or music.

No landmark albums have been remastered/re-released without bonus content in recent years. It's just not industry standard.
Think for a second. What would really be the point otherwise?

SOTT sounds AWFUL on CD, compared to any of his other 80s releases. And the volume level is incredibly low compared to anything else. But they're all crying out for a proper CD remastering - the early days of CD masteting of older albums were fairly shot in the dark and rudimentary. Always worry about losing the dynamic in the loudness wars though.

WB knows that Prince is no longer a desired commodity. Nobody really wants to deal with him. Purple Rain, on the other hand can pay handsomely. They own the movie and the distribution of anything Prince wants to market. I think WB has the upper hand on this particular deal and Prince has to play by their rules with these releases. I don't think WB has anything vested in PlectrumElectrum or the artificial cage Prince wants to call hit music delivered. Whether they sell or not is not their bitch. It's Purple Rain that they are interested in and they got what they wanted from him.

Hoping we hear details by the end of this month, if it's going to be released this year. . If not, maybe they'll hold off until RSD in April 2015. ----------

They don't own the movie. Warner Bros. Records and Time Warner have been 2 different, unrelated companies for over 10 years now.

I've said the same thing many times but people often seem to disagree. To me SOTT is the most needed Remaster, and the best excuse to add in some of the outtakes since it was supposed to be a 3CD set.

Yeah it may be one of the worst sounding CDS ever and Im being kind when i say MAY BE. The only thing that had worse sound were the Billy Joel cds early on PRE-Nylon Curtain, BUT all his albums have long since been re-done with artwork however, some even got much expanding releases with bonus discs and dvd. Piano Man and The Stranger to date were done like that and there is rumour to Glass Houses getting a 35 year issue next year from Sony in that same way. Many of Prince's 80's albums have shitty CD masters. There's very little bottom end. I want some bass, dammit. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Here's my view on this. If prince said yes there will be extra tracks , live footage etc this would Become a big story and get the press and his Hardcore fans talking, taking away exposure for his new projects. He also played electric intercourse at a gig The week he signed to Warners. That's not a coincidence as it's never been played Since 83? He is a master at creating press whether good or bad .

I guess that this Deal is dead in the water now....best configuration & release opportunity for a single version of PR remastered MAYBE but don't expect any more albums from WB catalogue remastered (1999 or SOTT)...2 expensive 2 produce & manufacturing & no enough money for WB & Prince>it does not care about his legacy anymore! )

I'm still trying to be Mr. Positive Positivity. Remember the "unheard" part of the announcement? That is very different than saying "unreleased." Also, a pre-Christmas release makes perfect sen$e. And WB can still squeeze the 30th Anniversary! for all it's worth. Prince may be downplaying just to mess with us. -

Contractually talking, You already have the UNHEARD MUSIC : AOA and PE. Contractually talking Prince made a worldwide tour on promoting the 2 albums : the yahoo event was diffused worldwide. Contractually talking prince made 2 videos : FIXURLIFEUP, BREAKFAST CAN WAIT I only hope on the reedition, if ever released which I highly doubt with the low resultats of AOA and PE, there will be all the b faces extented. One thing is granted : the remasterization will sound worst than the 1990 CD. That's mathematics, all the re-release sound worst, reedition after re-re-reditions, thanks to the loudness war.

You're right, "long-awaited, previously unheard music" could mean from 2013-2014. It could also mean 1983-1984. We don't know all the details of the contract. Like I said, just being positive. "The password is what."

u guys are so ambitious and positive .. when y'all know PR is only gonna have 8 tracks .. niki will be dropped fo sho! Ha .. he's release it with no tracklist printed so u can enjoy the surprise of 8 gloriously brickwalled tracks thinking u were gonna get a double cd of extras .. that's prince for ya

Dream scenario: He pulls a Billy Corgan and releases too many extra tracks for the re-release. Corgan has gone overboard for the Smashing Pumpkins re-releases. It's almost too much music.
Like the Adore re-issue:
CD1) album, remastered in stereo CD2) album, in mono CD3) 18 unreleased demo songs CD4) 16 unfinished / demo versions (sometimes the same song is included 3 times) CD5) 15 more unfinished / demo versions DVD6) 17 live tracks, from that era
For PR, we'll probably get the album remastered. Done. [Edited 10/8/14 8:25am]

Conservatively speaking about a dream scenario for the Purple Rain remaster, I think it will be the following: The album as we all know it with remastered audio. B-sides: 17 days, Erotic City, Another Lonely Christmas, God (vocal and instrumental versions), Irresistible Bitch. Extended Versions of: Let's Go Crazy and the I Would Die 4 U 12" Possible unreleased songs: Computer Blue (uncut version), Electric Intercourse, Possessed (since it can be heard in the movie), Wednesday and Father's Song (since both of these were supposed to be in the album). My only questions are: will it include the unedited versions of Take Me With U, The Beautiful Ones, and Darling Nikki? And if it has Electric Intercourse will it also include the rest of the 1983 First Ave concert in soundboard quality? No need for single versions (redundant) but it all remains to be seen...

I'm guessing the average age of posters here is 30ish.
Imagine if everywhere you went, everyone you ever talked to, ever public appearance you made, people were asking you, "When are you gonna do something like when you stood up and took your first steps again?".
I suspect your answer might be a bit blasé as well.

Why is Prince not excited about any re-issues? Because they are a stark reminder of how good he was. The man doesnt want to celebrate his past, and despises all of us because we do. He thinks he's still on that level, at 56 years old, doing what Prince from the 80s never would have done...following trends. Make it so, Number One...
