"Purple Rain" re-issue no extra tracks?

I don't like how Prince sounded in his
latest interview about "purple rain"
remaster..Sounds like just the 9 tracks
& that's it..Prince throwing cold water
On this entire project..thanks Prince

That was my guess all along, and akin to what a remaster is, just better sounding album than the original.

The interview made me lower my expectations for the PR remaster, Im glad if it gets released at all since there's no mention about release dates or anything and its October now

I think the remaster will be more than he makes it out to be.....but just not what we all hope. I believe it will be a 2cd set:

Disc 1: Original Album [intact...just "remastered" lol ]

Disc 2: Everything already released [extended versions of singles, B-sides, The tracks from The Time, Apollonia 6/ MAYBE even "Modernaire" will be included].

I fear that IF Prince actually adds any previously unreleased stuff to the album, it will all probably be edited pretty bad. disbelief

We can all dream though....... lol

He's working on a rerelease of the epic "Purple Rain" album for its 30th anniversary, but when asked if he's excited about it, he flatly says no.

"Same album, just state-of-the-art sound," he says. "It's nice that it sounds better for the fans but I live in the now. I don't have to go backwards to celebrate."

He had no hesitation about working with Warner Bros again (after entering what Lamkins-Ellis called an "amazing deal"): "I don't deal in history nor should they," he says. "It's not the entity that's the problem."

Prince isn't stopping with the two new albums and the "Purple Rain" rerelease: His song "Funknroll" is being used by NFL network, and he's excited about new avenues for his music.

I know. Oh, God. I know. I don't want to hope because it's probably foolish. But dammit I want this.

If there's no extras it'll be useless as any remaster will probably be mastered too loud and actually sound worse than the original.

I'm down for the bonus tracks not the "remaster"...

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Prince just doesn't 'get it' nuts He may live in the now,but many of his fans want to celebrate the old, classic albums. Many of us enjoy looking back. Can't see why he's so against that.

Everytime he takes the stage he is living in the past, so not sure what all the hoopla is about with the studio stuff.

I'll play devil's advocate here and say maybe Prince includes the experience of live performance/rehearsing of any song as being in the moment, the now, the present, even if it's an older song.

A re-release comprising of those very same older songs that he originally recorded 25-30 years ago is not "of the moment".

But yes, he contradicts, as is his whim lol

Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

Prince also needs to realise that the past defines the roads we take in the future. Its all relevant. wink

RODSERLING

It will sound worst for the fans, because of the loudness war. Fucking nonsense to buy again the same album, just to hear it with a worst dynamic.

I'm not sure why you say this? Sign 'O' the Times sounds great to my ears.

If it's remastered to the same quality as some of the tracks on AOA it will sound worse.

WB knows the project would lose 2 thirds of its commercial value without previoulsy unreleased tracks and the first thing they advertised it about in the original press release was the addition of such material, I doubt they left it to prince's good faith knowing how erratic he is, it must be a contractual obligation for him to submit at least X previously unreleased tracks for the project and any subsequent remaster. If they didn't make it a contractual obligation, then they're dumb as hell, because the whole world knows how counterproductive prince can be when it comes to doing those things right!

Of course if Prince stared at them for more than 10 seconds without blinking, they would have to do anything he wanted.

Interresting part from the WB/Prince Press release back in April about the new Deal

“For Prince fans worldwide, the new partnership will open a veritable gold mine,” Warner Bros. proclaimed in the press release."

....nothing is written on stone.....Gold mine can suggest Everything or Nothing in the same time!
