It's mostly the lyrics that impress me. It reminds me of Anna Stesia, Letitgo or Reflection or the unreleased version of Old Friends 4 Sale: very intimate, very honest. This alone makes it a milestone prince song IMHO. It's a beautiful track indeed!

I get the same feel as Moonbeam Levels. Prince in reflective mood, revealing his anxieties and helplessness as he yearns for spiritual understanding. When he drops his braggadocio to reveal his heart it's really moving.
don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

One thing I've noticed - a lot of reviews don't mention this song.

Is it a song where you have to understand Prince and his music over the years to get just how different and amazing it is?

So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

I don't think so, my wife (who doesn't like Prince) came out from the other room specifically to ask what this was I was playing because she liked it.

I am so glad this thread was started - I was about to create it myself!

The song is on constant repeat - it's an UNbelievable song, FANtastic!!

Easily one of the best Prince songs ever and I don't say that lightly.

"Most people are born dead, but I was born alive" - INcredible!

I agree with you - I think you have to know Prince's catalog to get it. I can't say enough about this song!

i found this song pretty lame and boring. There really isn't anything happening. THe girls voices are too annoying. I think it really needs an awesome solo or breakdown.

Agreed. And while I do think that a casual Prince fan may enjoy it, it's knowing something about his evolution over the past 15 or so years that makes it heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time. You really get some insight into how the man's unique course in life has shaped him.

Thanks! It's called pricedown. I was actually trying to match the round retro font on AOA, but my google search landed on a page with this font. It was crazy. Happy accident.

.

By the way, I don't mean it's the actual font Prince has been using. Just one that closely matches it. I'm sure his is custom.

Nobody recognised the strong similitudes with Forbidden love from Sakamoto, which is basically the same song with a more constructed melody ?

Do you mean Forbidden Colours? There are definite similarities there.

WBH lyrically is something everyone can connect with. Be it literal or figuratively everone can relate to trying to find their way back home. Thats something thats been missing from Princes writing for a while.

I like Justin Timberlake, Pharrell, etc. as much as the next person, but ain't no way any of them could come up with a song this powerful and moving. That's where Prince is genius. He's operating on a whole other planet than other musicians.

When Prince says "may u live 2 see the dawn" this song is his dawn, that beautiful new age metaphysical place, where time does not exists, where mere thoughts create the reality around you, and everything and everyone is ONE, the recurring them in his music for many many many years. I am glad we now have music to go along with those words, truly a beautiful expereince combined with affirmation III.

It's been a minute since Prince has made me tear up a bit. touched

I also agree with those who suggest that knowing something of Prince's evolution through the years makes the song that much more poignant.

You mean the main theme from "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence" with David Sylvian singing on top it?

That melody has been one of my favourites since I was 12, but I don't really hear it there. The melody part at least. What version of the Sakamato composition are you referring to exactly? There are at least three different recordings.

Probably the best thing he's done in years...but he'd have trouble getting airplay with this, not really an obvious single. I'd LOVE to be proved wrong though.

I didnt like it on first listen, now I think it is one of the centerpieces that pulls the album together cry touched

I like Havas background vocals, sounds like she is about to cry, adds emotion

while lianne le havas does reprise her role as the spoken voice at the beginning-the etheral background vocals is delilah(paloma ayana) & her voice is amazing.
