Bluffers' Guide To Prince While I'm here, I might as well post this Bluffers' Guide To Prince thing I wrote the other week. It's most definitely not the best thing I've ever written about Prince, and it's very much The Basics (which is the whole point, of course), and won't tell anyone on this site anything they didn't already know. But for the completists, who like to read absolutely everything there is to read about P, here it is... http://bluffers.com/bluff-way-prince/

Not bad...I am a super nit picker sometimes...The comparison to James Brown's band? 3rd Eye Girl are nice for what they are, but should not be in the same sentence with that band. And Prince doesn't seem to "drill" anybody these days. For example, Andy Allo wasn't going to be soloing on "Let's Go Crazy." He obviously picked them because he wanted an all-girl band. At least they are decent musicians...but not super ones either.

You make a fair point (although I have a higher opinion of 3rdEyeGirl than you do). I suppose I wasn't referring to 3rdEyeGirl specifically in the bit about bands being 'drilled', but Prince's band at any given moment. (The band from the 3121 shows being a perfect example.)
The weird thing about writing a piece like this is, who is it for? Who are these people in the world who know so little about Prince - about music, full stop - that they need telling? *shrug* I dunno, not my problem really. It wasn't my idea, but someone commissioned me to do it, so I gave them what they asked for.
In an ideal world I'd far rather go in deep, and write a 10,000 word examination of "Anna Stesia" or something. (But you could equally ask: who is THAT for?)

Anna Stesia is among my favorite songs, but I would probably stop at around 500 words.
