NP Jazz/NPGQ/whatever - please don't release this If what was heard on the Yahoo live stream last night is indicative of what this "project" has to offer, I hope to hell it never sees the light of day.

Whilst the pieces themselves weren't the most original, the sheer impeccable musicianship was enough to keep me interested. I would have MUCH, MUCH, MUCH prefered Prince to have done his little 'set' with that quartet instead of 3rdEyeGirl. I got two sides... and they're both friends.

I like this group, I hope for some great music to come out of this group (including perhaps Revelation). Good idea for a tour, he can front several different bands playing in different styles of music. That would be hot. I enjoy all his various bands, 3rdeyegirl, NPG, Revolution, they each have a different vibe to them. I had a dream one night where a bunch of us were in a building with multiple stages of different sizes and arrangements, from concert halls, to intimate & small, to stadium size. We were going from one space to another watching and experiencing all this amazing music. Each set had a different lineup of songs that fit perfectly with the space we were in. Needless to say I woke up with a huge smile.

I don't know if the song (it may be called Revelation; Prince sang it in falsetto and there was a sex on it) Josh played on the computer while sitting at the console would be included in what you're referring to, but what I heard of it sounded amazing! I'd love to hear it in its entirety.

On a night where Josh played tracks featuring sliced up pre-packaged beats and there was an unreleased Prince song featuring the word "T'was", I'll take the jazz cats. I haven't even bothered to unwrap 3EG and AOA, but maybe I can get through the jazz album if it ever drops. [Edited 10/1/14 23:15pm]

[Edited 10/1/14 23:15pm] You haven't bothered to unwrap the CDs but found the time to watch the yahoo live stream and post on the org... Humm, priorities? Newsflash - AOA is possibly the strongest album P has but together in 14 years.. Unwrap it!! "Still Crazy 4 Coco Rock"

I agree with u aiden, AOA is a very strong album. Prince 4Ever.

Hasnt Prince already scratched his jazz itch? Why go back to it? Maybe he is trying too hard to impress with this. A spaced-out techy album, a rock album and a jazz album. Really? Just give us an NPG funk album and leave the jazz noodlings in the past.

When Prince's own funk/rock/R&B blend mixes with jazz, the results have often been sublime. But when he tries to do straight-up jazz, it's often spotty. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

As far as I'm aware Prince hasn't particularly contributed to NPGQ or composed any of the tracks. He appeared on guitar with them once for a few numbers, but that is that. I don't think NPGQ is a Prince release.

I've got the tracks, and I agree the album is beter than a lot of his recent music, but once the newness wears off, I think people will say it's essentially Batman meets NewPowerSoul. The cd's are going in with the rest of my collection. But the jazz cats are at least making actual music, and it's based closer to Prince's good jazz phase, like early Madhouse era. If they have an album I want to hear it.

I thought the first of the two tracks they played was very much in the same vein as Clouds in terms of chords and feel. It had me grooving. I got two sides... and they're both friends.

Let's not forget they were playing on the song Revelation, so as a stand alone group, you may think it's cheesy, but when combined with Prince's vocals and writing, clearly it is a wonderful combination. "You always get the dream that you deserve, from what you value the most" -Prince 2013

Great musicians does not equal great music. Could they play? Yes. They played me right to sleep.

I haven't heard it so I don't have an opinion on the music but anyway I think you are not the center of the known universe and that just because you don't like something isn't sufficient enough a reason to deprieve those who would from enjoying a release. As far as I know it's unlikely someone will put a gun to your face and force you to buy and listen to that album if released, so just call it a day and ignore it if you won't like it. There's already too much rotting in the vault, the more gets an official release the better as far as I'm concerned.

I have to say that I don't want to see NPGQ play at all. From the two songs I saw on the stream the other night, they are a very poor copy of what Chick Corea was doing in the 80's and 90's with his Elektric Band. Except with the Elektric Band you got Dave Weckl on drums and Chick and some other fantastic players in the jazz world. I love JB on drums as much as the next Fam around here, but not in that type of setting.

[You need to keep this between us but, if it does come out, I heard that you could "ignore it" and / or "not buy it" and/ or "change channels" and , therefore, it will have no impact on your life or general mental wellbeing. Not sure if this is true or not, but it seem's to have worked for me with pretty much anything Jack White's been involved in...]

I'd be HIGHLY surprised if I didn't like it to some extant: contrarly to many here there's not a single Prince or Prince-related album that I don't enjoy in a way or another. And even if I was to hate it, I still find the premise of your thread ridiculous: it never even crossed my mind when I disliked an album to wish it hadn't been released, what do I care? I just won't listen to it again is all... Even if I don't like it, there will always be other people who will and I don't see why I would want them deprived of their pleasure in doing so. Actually there is ONE Prince-related album that really gets on my nerves: the unreleased Margie Cox album from 89. Still, I know some people here who like it, I'm glad it leaked and I'd be glad if it was released one day as part of an archival program, even though it's unlikely I'll listen to it very often. . I really don't like this way of thinking that if u don't like something it shouldn't exist, it's an awfully dark and bitter way of seeing the world and it depresses me A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

you people are way to fanatical about Prince himself, and want to hear what u want to hear. you are living in the past. he is like Miles Davis...... he never regresses..........he only goes forward............. get over it, and listen....................what do you play?
