Listening to each album in chronological order

So I decided I would listen to each album in chronological order

To see if I still felt the same way as when I first got them, when I was a young whippersnapper

I got as far as Grafitti Bridge before I needed some Neil Young or something

I highly recommend it, you know for enlightenment and a trip down memory lane

Heres a couple of my revelations:

1. Dirty Mind appears to now be my fave album after this experiment. It feels raw and real somehow, exciting and new even now

2. My favourite track on 1999 now seems to be the least Minneapolis Sound like one - Lady Cab Driver. Thats some tight linn drum free live feel funk

3. Graffiti Bridge isnt that bad - the album i mean. The song is still a skipper

4. Theyre all in dire need of a spruce up and reissue sound wise

er

No way I could ever do something like this. I'd probably want to hear something else halfway through the Prince album. But I agree about Lady Cab Driver.
Did you listen on LP, CD, or download?

Did this a few years back (up to Lotus Flower iirc); I recommend it to everyone. Sometimes it's a drag to stick to the order but it really pays off (P's artistic growth, decline etc.)

My biggest revelation actually was 'For You', which I had never cared for much - to my surprise I actually liked it. D&P on the other hand was a bit of a let down, even though this was the first P album I bought when it actually came out.

I just did this all the way up to 20ten, even including that horseshit Indigo Nights and SNEWS, as well as Chocolate Invasion and Slaughterhoise and CNOTE and other bullshit. It was intense. But it does make me appreciate some albums more, and solidify my feeling that Planet Earth and MPLSound are tripe.

Was just listening to the early albums in sequence at work today, and I found myself enjoying how melodic the two first albums are. When you're in "whistle while you work" mode, they really bring the goods. Sort of like listening to classic EWF or Stevie. How awesome that so many of P's albums are treasures of very different types.
