art official age vs the black album

For me....art official age kicks the black album's arse...black album has some great tracks and some very weak ones...aoa is more cohesive and stronger throughout for me....your opinions please smile

I love both albums - all songs on them both,

I don't skip a track on The Black Abum..... the only track that seems out of place is When 2 R In Love this belongs to and fits better in on Lovesexy.

I believe I will go with The Black Album, cuz it's already a Prince classic, and it's slightly better, with more nerve, more edgy funk, TBA is the littlebrother to Sign "☮" The Times, imo.

Art Official Age, who knows if this will stand the test of time that well..?

I do know it compares unfavorably with Carmen Elektra's album.

if we are going to compare AOA with other similar albums, at least you guys should pick a similar album, like Emancipation disc 2 or Planet Earth

I refuse to answer to the OP

How nice of you to make up rules for other people's threads. So how come you're not a mod yet?

Anyway... TBA & AOA are both quirky & have a distinct production. At this point I'd still go for TBA. Cool how Bob George turns up on both discs.

Also TBA has 'its story', which I find hard to separate from the actual music. Can't say that of AOA.

I have to wait 20 years to answer this. The Black Album has become one of my top 5 faves over the years. But it didn't start off that way. I always need Prince albums to marinate for awhile before I decide where it lands on the list (which btw seems to change constantly)

Impossible to compare. The funkiest songs Prince has ever done are on the Black Album, the funkiest song on AOA would have been a Black Album reject. The Black album is up there in the stratosphere, AOA has not even disengaged its primary rockets and has a long way to climb. It may get there, it may not. Only time will tell.

I am loving AOA currently but it is a young love. I have been married to the Black Album for 27 years! biggrin

Yeah this!

I mean AOA is a nice new album, but nowhere as interesting or as funky as the black album. Which is a Top 5 Prince album to me.

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...
