With two new albums coming out Tuesday, Prince has planned a release party inside his Paisley Park Studios in Minnesota, which he will livestream via the Live Nation Channel on Yahoo. The event, which will feature his 3rdEyeGirl group as well as a behind-the-scenes look at the studio, will kick off at 9:30 p.m. CST for what they've mercilessly dubbed "Plectrumelectrumartofficialage." It will be streaming on Yahoo! Screen Live and on the Yahoo! Screen app.
This week, Prince is releasing the solo album Art Official Age and a collaboration with 3rdEyeGirl,Plectrumelectrum. He's billing the former record – which he produced, arranged, composed and performed with singer-songwriter Joshua Welton – as "classic Prince," while calling the latter both a "classic band album" and "an electrifying funk-rock statement."
When Prince's label announced the albums in August, a press release promised "a series of very special events" to take place globally, though no other events have been announced.
Prince has been teasing the albums over the past year by playing songs live and posting them online. Last October, he released a video for the Art Official Age tune "Breakfast Can Wait" – a song he'd previously released a demo of on Twitter – and most recently unveiled the version of "Funknroll" that will appear on that record; another will be included on Plectrumelectrum. Other tracks he allowed to be released early include "Breakdown" and "U Know." One song, "Fallinlove2nite," which is a duet with actress and singer Zooey Deschanel and premiered on her TV show The New Girl, will not appear on either album.
