'PlectrumElectrum' album track is the SAME recording as the Madison Dubé Extremely Short Film!

Don't believe me? Sync them up and hear the magic happen!

This means that the album track was recored completely live on the spot in one take

(allowing for a few post recording overdubs etc.) whilst being filmed!

Is this the first ever Prince album track we have a live video of?

Anyway, I'm not sure if I am allowed to post the link to the live video of Plectrum Electrum on Vimeo,

but it's not difficult to find.

Try it out!

i think it's actually 2 recordings merged together - definitely the Dubé version (which comes 2nd) plus the other version that was 'leaked' online a while back.

Could well be indeed. Thanks for the feedback. Either way, it's a fantastic recording.

It's not officially released footage, but it's circulating.

I recognized the Dube version, I'd love to check whether the other have merged in it as well, will have to check it out ^^

Question: This song started it's life as "Elektra" by Donna Grantis?

Judging from the first riff, I'd say it started its life as 'The Ocean' by Led Zeppelin.

Yes it's a cover (or self-cover given that Donna is part of it)

There are several live versions on youtube. If you can listen, you can answer this question for yourself.

Definitely, when I heard the opening notes to this at a live show I thought the band was playing a cover of Ocean. lol

Yeh, I've seen the videos on youtube - they prompted my question. I wasn't sure on the timings. ie - had Grantis met with Prince by then and "Elektra" was something they worked on, or if it was her song and Prince liked it. - One of the videos was titled "Elektra/Plectrumelectrum"

So, the full video of the performance/recording was shown last night during the Yahoo streaming, which should be proof that it was indeed the entire recording in 1 take, with no cuts and pastes.
