Loved and understood from the beginning...brilliant track!

Agreed. Brilliant track and brilliant album.

Prince is back mother fuckers.

Had to be said.

A great opening to a great album. I got the sarcasm immediately...it's hilarious and funky all at once. Like it more with every listen.

I was thinking, "what the f*** is he doing?"...I was ready to get my summerparty cd's from the 90's and check which song he'd copied. I had fears for the remainder of the album..would it be a struggle, again?

But after a second listen...I just had to laugh...it is so obvious and I missed it the first time.

And I even like it. It is catchy.

Some Kool Aid drinkin' fools in this thread.

What is obvious on this song, to me, is that Prince is not stepping out of his comfort zone, but he may be nodding in the direction of something outside of it. This song is why people who don't listen to Prince never could understand tracks like "3 Chains O Gold" or "Crystal Ball" or, to some degree, "Computer Blue". Except it lacks the charm, attitude, and fire.

A pastiche of memes put through a paisley filter is nothing new. But perhaps Prince could stick to topics he knows better; he sounds awfully out of touch on this record.

Yeah, you tell Prince. "Stay within the lines!"

That literally couldn't be further from what I said.

I have a totally different reading of this song. The artificial cage is the structure of our society and system. I think its a spiritual statement!

AOC is a bazillion times better than Clouds .. prince has been trying for a hit ever since WB took back TMBGITW .. please stop saying he could have a hit if he wanted .. prince wants a hit .. all his music has been geared towards radio, save the light jazz, with overdubs that attempt the current sound that completely ruin his music, with lyrics that pander to the lowest common denominator, stupid people .. i suppose if prince wanted AOA to be a hit it would have been but prince really wanted to put out a mediocre record so that PE would sell better right? .. prince cannot write a hit anymore .. prince can sign with WB and they can pay off every radio station and mag to get prince some high praise press .. but that is as good as it gets for p .. a genuine hit is nowhere to be found and it is not because p isn't trying .. he is trying his career right into the grave
