45 years? I was intrugued by the line in Clouds about Prince being in a state of suspended animation for...45 years? And wondered to myself what that might mean. Of course these songs could all be fictional, no need to be beased on anything autobiographical, but I suspect with this one 45 years might mean something very specific. Prince was about 10 years old when his parents filed for divorce and 12 years old when he moved in to live with his father. He's what, 56 now? That would be the 45 years reference if this is based on something from his real life. Sounds like on this new album (AOA) he's trying to heal the lifelong scars of his parent's divorce, an event which was apparently very traumatic and significant in his life. OK, y'all didn't want to get that deep now did ya?
Besides all that... the album BUMPS!!! I'm absolutely thrilled with it so far after a few listens.

I do believe it's 45 years into the future. The narrative suggests it's some sort of "new age-ish" mystery future where he needs an adjustment period to the new ways of communication and dealing with others (telepathy, etc...).

Also, I'm getting a real "Vanilla Sky" vibe from Affirmation III, like his future universe is created within his own mind, "there is only one destination and that place is you", "all of it, everything is you"...

That is so Prince - creating and living in your own reality. Maybe that's why I like the album so much. Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths...(Jeremiah 6:16) www.ancientfaithradio.com

Yes, very much a Prince philosophy I agree.
Also, in Clouds, the narrater makes reference to a place which doesn't require time and they are here to help him which also reminds me of Vanilla Sky. Is the female narrater here the equivilent of Vanilla Sky's "Tech support"?

That must be it -- Prince was a big fan of the Matrix and this other movie is similar.

I think it's 45 years into the future too.

Oh yeah, that's true... I'd forgotten his liking of the Matrix.

Ah, Vanilla Sky. That unnecessary remake of a great spanish movie.

I assumed the 45 years was to the day he turned Jehovas Witness. The time before is where he was in suspended animation. Now since turning he is protected.

WTF??!! That is indeed totally something for Prince This is not music, this is a trip
No, it's not a drug, it's something more hip Don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine Purple music does the same to my brain

55 + 45 = 100 | |

But why 45? Why not 50 or 100? To pick 45 is odd. It's not even divisible by 7! "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

I believe he was baptized some time in 2001 which would have made him 43. I like the idea of interpreting this both in the future and also the past (still like my idea of his parents splitting up as being a defining moment in his life.) To my ears "finding his way back home" is healing from the scars of that traumatic event. Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths...(Jeremiah 6:16) www.ancientfaithradio.com

It could be that AOA was a double album with a story and lots of Affirmations but then got cut down and now the story makes no sense.... A bit like the Symbol album?

I'm laughing at everything I read about AOA on the org, and I'm scarried in the same time.
How could you stand to hear CLOUDS again and again ? It's just an rnb song, without melody, like prince has made it dozen times, in worst. Nothing new here.
How could you say seriously that the second half of the album is sublime ? TIME is a torture to the ear, mind and soul. It lasts 7 minutes of a dull rythmic, with no melody, no real vocal performance from Prince. It could be us, same problem.
How could you seriously saying that AOA is a good album (or worst, the best in 20 years:lol: ), and in the same time bashing BATMAn, DIAMONDS AND PEARLS and EMANCIPATION, RAIMBOW CHILDREN, which are far, far better than AOA and PE united ? That makes no sense at all. I think I must have landed in the TWILIGHT ZONE.
Hey, nobody seems to complain about the packaging ? Didn't you understand that Prince just fucked everybody up with these releases ? No wonder why he doesn't want WB to use a single true picture of him to promote the album. [Edited 9/29/14 1:23am] [Edited 9/29/14 1:24am]

We all know you are desperate for these albums to fail because you have relentlessly claimed (through mathematics????) that WB and Prince have fucked up. If these albums succeed then you have a lot of egg to wipe off your face.

Frustrating ? No, it's just making me laugh about it, like I said. Beside the 1st week, AOA will fail on charts. That's mathematics, because without promotion, you can't sell an album, especially when it's a Prince album. It was a "general you", not specifically adress to you. You know well that almost eveybody here bashes these albums. But if you bash EMANCIPATIOn, why not bashing AOA too? There is a lot more interesting tracks on Emancipation (Holy River, face dow, balcony, jam of the year) than on AOA. hell, even "style" is better than anything on AOA (except way back home, a pastiche of forbidden colors, in more simple), and god knows this track is pure crap. TIME, classic Prince ? Since when Prince is making a dull rnb song, without melody, with a voice you can't almost even hear ?

Like I said, thankfully I dont use your ears to listen to music. And thankfully, I dont share the same inetrpretation of what mathematics is. Got a cloth handy for all that egg?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
thankfully me, I don't have your ears ! You're still not able to explain your inconstancies. Eggs for what ? I predicted AOA and PE would be flops, and I will be proved right, and you know it. You know that shit can't sell, except for fans. I predicted that neither Prince, nor WB won't do anything to promote the albumS, besides some posters on the street, and you know what ? The album is released since 3 days, and I'm still right. I foresaw these albums would be crap, with the tracklist proposed, and I was right, because objectively, it's the worst non instrumental album released by prince since the beginning of his carreer.

Thank you for your cynical, preposterous and pretentious statement. Where do you see everyone putting down Batman and TRC? Lots of love for Diamonds and Pearls and Emancipation as well, though they are less my cup of tea. And that's just it -- just because something doesn't match one's own taste doesn't mean it is without merit or charm for others. Just say you don't like it, in your opinion it's BS and leave the self-satisfied talk down at the door.

Where ? Everywhere on the org. lol, how can TIME can be thought with charm, or merit ?

Don't need to use a crystall ball, but to just look at the facts. if you considered just the facts, I was right on everything since one month. And like I said it one month ago, it's not really hard to predict. i just don't understand why it wasnt' so obvious to you all.

Is your definition of inconsistencies the same as your definition of mathematics? What inconsistencies? That I like AOA and dont like Emancipation? My god, how confusing for you!

Common, let's talk seriously, without throwing eggs. This material, the same length as AOA, even a lil bit longer : JAM OF THE YEAR HOLY RIVER JOINT 2 JOINT MY COMPUTER FACEDOWN SOMEBODY S SOMEBODY MR HAPPY EMANCIPATION BALCONY SLAVE NEW WORLD You think it's weaker than AOA ?
