Prince- Dirty Mind

I have always loved this album, but lately, it has been something to appreciate... and I really dig the style of this album..It blends so nicely. Every artist has a "Best" album.. this could very well be one of his greatest...

What is everyones favorite song on this album?

It is my favorite album, it has that raw feeling you only get with demo's and live recordings. That, I like.
Favorite must be Uptown.

This is without a doubt my favorite Prince album. As for a favorite song, that's kinda tough. I'm gonna go with Partyup. I know that everyone grows up and matures, and surely, Prince is no different. I love the music he's doing now, but I really miss the Dirty Mind/Controversy/1999 Prince. The "We don't give a damn, we just wanna jam," Prince. Just one more time. Side-bar...Dez is my favorite guitarist from any of his bands. None of the guitarists he's has since he left the band, rips it like he did. Maybe they're not allowed, I don't know. I see where a lot of people on this board pine away for Wendy, but I never thought that she was a suitable replacement for Dez. Little Red Corvette will never be the same.
Forgive me folks, didn't mean to go on a tangent.
Peace.

this is my favorite album out of p's entire catalogue of stuff...it's the one which got me hooked on 'im, as well. funny thing: in the past, i've seen folks on here sorta diss dm and that entire era, as if all they see about it is the sexual content and such.

if that's whatcha think, that ain't it at all. no no no! it's a teeny part of a helluva lot more. nod as 4 a fave song off of the whole thing, it's tough 2 say cuz i love everything about it...but the stand-out track 4 me is "partyup." horns

This too is my favorite album;

it rocks (When You Were Mine),
it rolls (Gotta Broken Heart Again)
it gets REAL funky (Uptown, Head, Do It All Night)
& it's got some "new wave" flava to it (Dirty Mind)

this album has a little bit of everything..
& it's
ALL GOOD.

I don't think some people realize how IMPORTANT it was for Prince to make this album. He had already established himself as a "soul artist" with "For You", & he proved he could make a #1 "pop" song with "I Wanna Be Your Lover"..

so had Prince NOT made Dirty Mind,

he wouldn't have been able to make Purple Rain, Around The World In A Day, Parade OR Sign O' The Times as great as those albums were.

Dirty Mind defined Prince at his best: a very solid mix of rock, soul, funk & new wave.

It really can't be emphasized enough, how this album took Prince to another level. This album is a real "must have" for "casual" Prince fans, much less those who are into him.

All hats off,
light a match or a candle or whatever..

for this BRILLIANT album.
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

that's cool!
dirty mind still ROCKS my senses. think about it-this
dude makes an x-rated album that got very little airplay
cuz of its contents...and it made his REP with the rock
journalism guys.

its a demo album..raw,rough,brilliant. to this day my hats go out to PRince for taking a chance.

A classic album. My favourite songs are Dirty Mind, Uptown and Head. The best song, however, is When U Were Mine.

on my tape version of the Album you can clearly Hear Dez on the Left Side&I'd know Dez's Vocal's anywhere.probably another reason why Prince ain't pushing for Re-Mastered Albums&things from his first Decade has a thing or two to do with Proper Credits.but that is another forum&time.

yeah, I used to think Dez was singin' background vocals, but after just listening to it, it sounds like just Prince.

I could be wrong, shrug, you know how Prince is when it comes to giving credit where credit is due
