Am i the only young fan? i am a 17 years old girl from Denmark, and i have never met somebody at my own age who are a fan, or listening to him. My friends they hate when i talk about prince, and they doesen't understand me.. it's just so hard to be the only one haha So i just wanna hear if there are any young fans, other than me

Hi and welcome, I am from Denmark as well....

Oh and yeah I am an old guy, 48 - I am a fan since I was 17 (the 1999 album).

My friends does not understand me either, they don't like Prince at all, they prefer Neil Young, Bob Dylan and that kind of old music..

There are other here among us...your age and younger.

I'm a teenage fan from America. IMO, there is an advantage and a disadvantage to being a Prince fan 25 or so yeas after he broke out.

The advantage is that there are 30+ albums, +30 outtakes, live albums, live shows, protegee albums, at least 500 Prince composititions out there, easily available due to the internet. Find Around the World in a Day confusing? Try Parade. Of course you could go back to the old albums if you felt that way in the 80s, but something about listening to all his albums together, from 1980 to 1997, just feels amazing and you get so many different tunes and awesomeness. And things that were hard to find in the 80s are all over the internet today, so you can get it all.

The disadvantage is that you miss out on the golden part of Prince's career... watching him perform at the 1985 Grammy Awards and making it his own Revolution+Apollonia+dated 80s celebrities show. 1987 MTV Awards, Arsenio Hall 91, AMAs 1995, Solid Gold, etc etc etc. It's just not the same going back on the internet and finding and watching these performances. Fans from the eighties already experienced it all, all the fame, potholes, comebacks, performances, everything that has to with the name Prince. But as a younger fan, I struggle to watch the 2013 Billboard Awards of 2014 Arsenio performance... yeah P is an amazing guitarist but he's also nearly 60 and it's stupid to expect him to start doing splits and twirls and 'aowahs!'. You wanna see the old Prince you love come and perform, but you see the old man perform instead. Eventually I just accepted that Prince is a talented individual who can't keep running around in boots with age and I think his performance is amazing for someone his age. He evolved with age.

It'd be easier for older fans because they've seen the man age, you've seen the golden parts, Purple Rain, Diamonds and PEarls, Slave, etc...

i try to put my friends on to him but only a few dig it.

hey i am not 17 but i know there are more people who visit here who are teens. i have a friend who is 19 and he is really into old jazz. dont let some of these older people here on this site intimidate you. many of them cry too much and seem bitter. haha! its like how many people in this country go on blogs and talk, talk, talk a bunch of $#*+. dont listen to them. people in Denmark probably have more sense than here in USA! haha! so enjoy what you like! i listen to stuff that some people would say is weird. and i dont care! my jazz friend and i respect each other. i like alot of punk rock.

Welcome to the Org JfromDK! I'm actually an "old" fan. But I was also 17 when I first got into Prince (back in 1989) and back then my experiences weren't so different from yours now. Nobody in my circle liked Prince, they all hated him. When I was giving my friends a lift in my car, I always had to change my Prince tapes to something more digestible, otherwise people would complain without end. Actually, I didn't know anybody else back then who was a Prince fan. I guess the difference is that in the 80s everybody knew who Prince was whereas many people in your generation probably don't.

I used to be a 17 year old fan...

... that was 20 years ago, though.

My 4 year old is a big fan of the song $ (since the age of 18 months).

No, you're not the only young fan. Maybe some fans don't do sites like these, but I saw many young people at Essence, so I know that you're not the only one.

I think its great that people my age like Prince, although thinking about it, when I went seeing him in Manchester in Febuary I'm pretty sure I was the youngest fan there, lol.

With the way popular music is these days, I'm not suprised people my age are looking back in time for music.

Of course not! i just turned 19 ( been a fan since i was 14 tho) and im in the same boat. None of my friends even know who prince is!!! and my family are all MJ fans. they dont understand my infactuation with P lololol

Hmm .. I think it's very hard to say. But I will say that I mostly listen to some of the older albums. Right now, i'm listening a lot to "computer blue", i love the guitar at the end.

Then you would've loved "Controversy" at the Essence Festival. He did it around 12 times, and didn't really sing most of the lyrics. Should've been a career defining show, but it was just an ok one. With 30th anniversary of PR, 2 new albums on the way... But that's Prince for ya.

I've been a fan since 84, and around 1997 I started looking back in time for music. I've noticed that most of the great stuff is from 1961-1998. There's some great stuff after 98, but most of it is by artists who were established before then. There's also some great stuff before 61, but it's pretty much blues, jazz, and folk music. That big band Lawrence Welk junk don't do it for me, and I found Elvis to be lame.

Glad that you are here. i understand what you are saying about a young fam but please try to think of yourself as Soul or spirit returning here for awhile for the physical experience of life including being a Prince fam. it's great to have all physical ages here and as fams...u r a fam for a reason, so enjoy the ride! glad that u r here.

I'm in my mid 20's myself, been active on this board since I was about 15.

I'm a 19 year old guy from the UK. I have come across very few people my age who like Prince more than knowing a song or two. There's plenty here on the org though. Tbh, there was quite a few younger people in the queues at the Manc shows.

Btw if Prince released 2 albums in one year, you check the release dates. The one closest to your date of birth is your album.
