Album with the highest highs and the lowest lows?

What Prince album do you think has the highest highs and the lowest lows? I'm not talking about a decent album or a great album with one stinker. I mean an album with a few really high highs and a few really low lows. To me, it's Diamonds & Pearls. There are a handful of absolute classics that stand with his best material AND some complete turkeys that rank among his worst. It's so uneven that I practically get whiplash listening to it.

New Power Soul, surprisingly, has some extreme depths. You have post-80s classics like Come On, The One, and Wasted Kisses sharing space with Push It Up, (I Like) Funky Music, and Freaks On This Side.

Most disparate Prince albums in terms of quality:
Diamonds and Pearls
Graffiti Bridge
New Power Soul
Batman
The Rainbow Children

At least one of these has way more lows than highs, and another has way more highs than lows.

er

Emancipation. I really like The Holy River or The Love We Make, but I can't stand Slave and New World

As I read the title of this thread my mind immediately came up with D&P. Some real fantastic gems on that one which are up there with the best music P has ever made, but there is also some absolute tripe.

Gems:
Thunder

Cream

Gett Off

Willing & Able

Money Dont Matter

Tripe:

Diamonds and Pearls
Jughead

Live 4 Love

Walk Dont Walk

i'd say graffitti bridge, some of his best work (joy in repetition, question of u, still would stand all time, thieves in the temple, elephants & flowers, we can funk) alongside some really weak stuff (new power generation, melody cool, graffiti bridge)

the stuff that works really works but the stuff that doesn't... yikes.

i'm blinded by the daisies in your yard....

Definitely Love Symbol 1992, on one side, some of the finest Prince songs of all time and on the other, 3 pieces of absolute dreck.

.

Highlights

Damn U - 10/10

Morning Papers - 10/10

Sexy MF - 9/10

Love 2 the 9s - 9/10

3 Chains o Gold - 9/10

.

Lowlights

Arrogance - 1/10

The Flow - 1/10

My name is Prince - 2/10

Blue Light - 2/10 I love reggae, and this insults reggae in my opinion. The Toots and Maytals, Prince is not.

.

Overall this album is a better release, but some of the crap has me scratching my head, its littered with slipshod rapping courtesy of Tony M. There are weak go nowhere jams in amongst some of his finest songs ever made. Damn U s just perfection in a song and the Morning Papers is some of his best singing and guitar playing/hornz to boot. Plus its ruined with all the pointless segues.

.

Diamonds and Pearls come close as it has Jughead and Push which suck big time, but Cream and Gett Off bust ass. Overall theres more highlights and this makes the low lights seem less extreme.

shocked Arrogance & The Flow are 2 high energy funksters getting funky with the funkiest funk in funksville.

Awesome album from start to finish. razz

I would choose any 90's album. In Diamonds And Pearls most songs are highs for me, but "Jughead" is an all-time low. Similar case with Love Symbol: mostly highs, but "3 Chains Of Gold" makes me consider suicide as a short term option. "Come" and "Space", are, like Kcool would say, masterpieces, but most of the album has significant lows. The Gold Experience: many highs, but "We March" is risible, and not because of the lyrics, but for the music. And Emancipation is once again an album with gems ("New World", "Holy River", "The Love We Make") and terrible lows (half of the first and second CDs). New Power Soul hasn't any highs for me, and Rave has an all-time high in "Wherever U Go", and many, many lowest lows.
