@3rdeyegirl/Prince on Twitter (aka Hashtag your shit) In another thread someone mentioned that twitter was all a buzz with talk about funknroll. While that may be the case if your twitter feed is full of Prince fans. In the cold light of day the buzz on twitter amounts to about 700 people. (sort of)

The above link is a graph depicting trends on twitter. Just for fun (or because I'm very boring) I had a look at the different ways people are spelling "FunknRoll"
#funknroll = 698 #funkandroll = 221 Funknroll = 3710 (2179) over the past 3 days.
"FunknRoll" is trending head and shoulders above the other terms. Which is fine other than the fact that in twitter-world hashtags mean more.
#Prince #Artofficialage #3rdeyegirl #plectrumelectrum #[songtitle] #NPG
Thats not to say things don't trend without a hashtag. But hashing helps identify. I was a bit shocked when Prince played Manchester earlier in the year and there was nothing about him trending (even local) - Not that people weren't talking. They just weren't tagging their posts. (@3rdeyegirl is possibly the most guilty since they get so many reTweets. Bottom line - Hashtag your shit.
In perspective the "Warner Bros. YouTube FUNKNROLL" thread on the ORG has had 10,500 views in 5 days.

Its a noble effort and everything but the people who spend ALL day on twitter tweeting about and in favor of their favorite musicians are generally either kids with no life and who live in these fantasy land universes of the people they idolize (like the millions of Nikki Minaj, Lady Gaga, and Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry nuts) or equally obsessive adults that tweet and retweet the same crap 100's of times daily to keep their artists trending. Prince should not be chasing those charts IMO. But if he wants to he's going to have to get very very very open with (i.e. a 180 degree reversal in policy on) youtube (since he's not on the radio) and then people (the younger generation included) will naturally start sharing stuff and commenting on stuff and accumulating views and mentions in a natural manner. Change it one more time..

I'm guessing you don't use twitter? Granted Princes audience is nothing like the size of those of the artists you mentioned... I'm not suggesting people try - although some of us do hear about new songs primarily via twitter. This is prince.Org but new songs don't get posted on the news page? In lieu of sales numbers twitter is a decent gauge. Twitter is a new tool by which some people (can) discover music. A few well directed tweets can get a lot of exposure.
It's not really a chart. Although the 3rdeyegirl account has taken an interest in the charts. Since they are on Twitter they might as well take the extra keystroke to make their presence count. Along with the fans. Also a lot of apps allow you to create lists - so #Prince can pull down EVERY prince tweet so you're only pulling down the thoughts you might be interested in hearing. You can find all kinds of stuff when it's properly indexed
The only reason I got tickets to Manchester was because of someone on Twitter (Plus there was a dude live tweeting from being first in line - updating people who were gonna try and get tickets on the door - awesome stuff). WB have put FnR up on youtube - it's not exploded but it's racking up some views. #myfirstselfie - come on. That was pretty funny.
