Yeah, yeah. Art Official = Artificial. Like you're the first one to think of that. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Its probably a distaste for a certain genre of music thats equated as artificial. I mean, if you don't dig R&B music, then you may deem it as artificial.

Artifical intelligence, not as clever as real intelligence. Artificial limbs, not as good as real limbs. Artificial grass, nothing like real grass. Artificial insemination, not nearly as pleasant as real insemination. Art Official music, not as good as real music by real musicians. RIP

All music is Artificial, definitely not alive, definitely not living organisms.

I do think that Prince is asking us to compare the 2 albums. One live and loud with a band of musicians. The other produced 'artificially'. I'm happy with both methods of production - its the quality of the songwriting that worries me.

I'm starting to think that there will be two versions of the AOA album. One that is more modern/artificial and another one that is more "real music by real musicians." Maybe that is just wishful thinking.

Depends how you read the title:
Art, official age (of) - unlikely. Artificial Age - More likely.
The title is fairly controvercial (in a very minor way). If it is indeed the latter. Being someone who prides himself of the "real" music thing. To say here's my artificial album is an odd way to go. He's almost dissing himself with the title.
SPECULATION: I wonder if the title of the album came before or after the track selection/sequence. Did he A) Set out to make (what he would call) an artificial contemprary album. B) Seek council from someone at WB with regard to the album sequence and then decide on the title.

Yeah, it's weird. It's almost like he's admitting with the title that the album has elements that he considers subpar.

I´m sick and tired of seeing such an eloquent and smart man like Prince butcher the English language for quite some time now. His forays into etymology and his atrocious way of spelling things in Princebonics is really embarrassing (ahdio, innerview, Art Official Age etc. etc.) and unnecessary. One thing I´ve always liked about Prince was his use of words, his lyrics, his unique and eloquent way of speaking and his classy album covers. He doesn´t need to be like the younger ones, they are looking up to him BECAUSE he is so unique, not because he uses cringeworthy spelling and wording.
Anyway.... " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Anyway.... I agree. Also, I do hope it is some form of satire/irony going on here. The album is sounding worse than NPS and RAVE so far with his biggest ever dumb-down to date. This Post is produced, arranged, composed and performed by WetDream

"dumb-down" ...u mean intentionally lacking?

By "For some time now"... Do you mean since the beginning of his career?
Prince isn't well known for his lyrical ability. He writes pop songs. Lyrically speaking "U know" is one of his better attempts. FunknRoll isn't, but doesn't need to be because it's not attempting to be deep. It's a dance track.
Art Official Age is a play on words. It's upto you (the listener). This is the "age" we're in. Is it the offical age of music as art? or just Artificial? Do you really think he gave that title to the album completely oblivious to the connotations?
What is artificial music? That synth solo from "When you were mine" - how are those synths more organic than the ones he plays on AOA?
3EG (if you want to be cynical about it) They're a manufactured band. Prince put them together, Prince gave them the 3rdeye name and theme. Prince writes their songs (and likely tells them what to play and how to sing)

Art Official Age is sounding more and more like Prince's homage to artists who admire him.
The "real music for real musicians" mantra is not really a mantra, it was his way of criticizing artists who rely entirely on technology to cover their lack of talent and musicianship.
It was never about totally excluding electronic sounds, samples, autotune, studio toys -- he's professed admiration for individual artists who use all or some of these elements. A real musician can use those tools with flair as Prince did with Linn drums and synths early on.
It's not that hard to understand if you don't have an either/or, black and white mentality.

No, I meant since ca. 1996,maybe even earlier (remember the heavy and pointless cursing during the Gold Experience era that was, in my opinion, unnecessary...he didn´t need that during Parade, SOTT, Lovesexy or Purple Rain...why start chants like "Play that motherfucking bass!" when you´re beyond the age of 35 and only used such words very rarely in your past? - I was also referring to how he would try to come across as smart and "in the know" about the etymology of certain words during the years 1997 until today. - - I know Funkroll is not meant to be deep but still...so far there is not much on that album that sounds like he´s put any effort into the songwriting. But hey, I´m not hating....there are a few songs that I really like, and I like the direction he´s going and of course he´s always soaked up current trends and incorporated them into his own music, especially during his heyday ....it´s just that his attempts sound a tad too corny and tacky these days. - Also, I disagree with you about Prince´s qualities as a songwriter. I think he is a great songwritrer but he seems to have run out of good ideas or experience, or he just doesn´t care anymore. His lyrics and the decrease in quality deserves a whole new thread. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Wait... are you sure? Sister? Do me baby? Head? Artistically did he need to point out that he bust his nuts over the bride to be's wedding dress resulting in her ditching the groom and marrying Prince instead? That was the "artistic" statement there?
There was a fair bit of swearing during the Purple Rain movie. Prince made his name being a rudeboy.
Some fans seem to have a very selective memory.
To be fair I don't think Prince used the word etymology. I'm aware of his CONtract ramblings. Playing with words to make him appear deep. Just wordplay.
As opposed to what?
SOTT is probably the only album which would stand up to any lyrical scrutiny while still having decent music, and covering interesting themes.
I think Rave through to now Prince has been trying too hard. I don't hear anything corny on AOA. Outside of the usual Prince corn that is.
I think you could wittle down his TRUELY great songs to about 20/30 songs. From his entire back catalog. Songs like Old friends for sale, 5 women, Sometimes it Snows, Strange Relationship - I'm not going to list anymore. The point i'm trying to make is while Sexy MF is a great song, it's hardly up there with the greatly written songs. Let's Work - definitely a classic Prince track. But lyrically there isn't much there.
There are songs like "My Computer" - which cover interesting topics (I can't think of another artist who'd even consider writing a song about internet chat rooms). It's an interesting theme but lyrically not all that deep.
Then there are faux deep songs like Gold (one of my favorite songs), Purple rain, The Cross - which come over as deep but when you look at the lyrics there isn't actually much there. They work well alongside the music.

According to your own, which says that things have to "talk back" to be alive (so, a tortoise is not alive?), you are correct, in your own terms. According to Dawkins, you'd be wrong.

A tortoise is a highly complex living organism, so regardless of subjective definitions, it doesn't change the fact of what constitutes a living organism. Creatively man made objects don't qualify. No more than dead chemicals can become living chemicals. Or dumb matter can evolve into intelligent matter.

No more than dead chemicals can become living chemicals. Or dumb matter can evolve into intelligent matter. Why don't creatively man-made objects qualify? Aren't cloned animals living beings? Your arguments are illogical and vague. And what the fuck are "living chemicals" and "dead chemicals" supposed to be? Now you're just talking nonsense. Again, memes (ideas, melodies, any creative craft etc.) behave exactly like genes, who constitute life in that they reproduce within their respective containers (our body, our mind etc.). Read "The Selfish Gene" and then we might have a proper discussion about what is alive, why and whether songs fit the discreption or not. Right now you're just throwing around hollow assumptions and making it clear that you have no idea about what you're talking about. . [Edited 9/23/14 2:45am]
