Darling Nicky Minaj's Anaconda is fine but... Why is it ok for the darling Nicky Minaj to have a song like Anaconda that is kind of dated but FUNKNROLL it is not?

Translation: you're saying if Funknroll sounds dated, why is not ok when it's ok for Nicky to release an obviously dated song and get props for it.
My theory (I have lots of theories) is that AOA is Prince admiring his admirers back. We always think of Prince as the master of pop fusion, but he does admire his contemporary peers and so we have an album that sounds influenced by Janelle Monae and others.
This is not the first time Prince incorporates contemporary influences but we have always seen it as "Prince is trying to sound trendy" -- and he was but with this one, I think we're going to get a deliberate homage to the people influenced by his own legacy. | |
