I'm shocked that people can't just be satisfied with the official releases. <turns up volume, hits play again>

I don't think it's possible that LISTENING to a leaked song could be unethical.

Leaking a song might be. Sharing it might be. Listening to it... Nah!

In my never-humble opinion, once it's out there, it would be wrong NOT to listen to it. Right?!?

So Princevault says this is 1996--do we know why? There's no reference given except to The Vault, but a brief look at my copy didn't show it (unless I'm just missing it somehow).

It sounds like 1996--but I'd like to be pretty sure before I date it and put it away in my media folders.

It's highly likely that they are correct. They have an excellent track record and there is nothing to indicate they're wrong, so, yeah, I'd trust them...

I'm sure I will ultimately go with their conclusion. But in looking at the other threads when the snippets came out, it just seemed like someone threw in "it's not new, it's from '96" and that was it. I'm sure someone at Princevault probably does have unmentioned information--probably ithe things originally leaked with other stuff from the period, or something. And it certainly sounds like 1996, so I'm not saying they're wrong.

Sounds Emancipation era?

It's simplistic, vocals are very good, but musically it's devoid of anything substantial, It's just a bit metronomic and sterile. Tick tocking along boringly. I'm amazed he put the effort in on the vocals that he did. They seem wasted on this track. Not offensive in any way though. Just pleasant.

7 out of 10.

It's OK. I can see why he left it in the vault. It far from great but its far from garbage too.

Meh. Mediocre ballad, and like much of Emancipation it just goes on and on for far too long. The song is really over and done by 2:30 approx. and then Prince just keeps tacking on superfluous nonsense to hide the mediocrity of it.

For better and for worse, it has all the signatures of the Emancipation era. Great vocals, sounds sincere, but weak music and production.

Better than anything released from the new albums, besides The Breakdown.
There's actual care put into the melodies and the construction of the song. This is something he hasn't worked at since 2006.

LOVE it!!

Cheesy yes and goes on a bit too long but nobody writes, arranges, performs and sings ballads the way Prince does.

Makes me wish he sang Whitecaps instead of Hannah.
