Scale of 1 to 10 - your sense of anticipation for new albums?

Mine is 2. Have virtually no expectations for these releases. neutral

Purple Rain Reissue - 7. Could go either way until more detailed info is released.

I have no sense of excitement for either of the new albums. A glimmer of hope for the PR remaster ONLY if it has bonus material.

5. It would probably be higher if I hadn't heard so much already.

I love Clouds, therefor my expectations are rather high to Art Official Age.. about 8,

I still haven't heard 1 good song from 3rdeyegirl, about 2 or 3.

the Purple Rain remaster... maximum expectations 10.

Having already heard 5 songs from Art Official Age is making me less excited as there will be less new stuff to ear. However so far from what I've prepared I think it maybe his best album in a long time. So 8/10

Again with Plectrum already heard quite a bit, can't wait to get a good sounding copy of FunknRoll. 7/10

er

Let's say 5/10. None of the new songs are really great, or even good, the best ones, Clouds & Breakdown are okay, but I would like to hear them within the context of the album. I mean the Prince album, I think I'll forget about the 3rdEye one...

AOA 9/10.. higher if he hasn't put so much out already

PE 8/10 Like more of what I've heard from AOA so far. Heard part of WOW.. I think it's going to be the standout track.

Everybody stop on the 1...GOOD GOD! Uhh!

5 out of 10 for the music; I expect decent-competent-professional, yet totally forgettable new songs, pop-modern R&B-commercial funk-a couple of soul ballads-some mainstream rock, etc. you name it, but not enough to make me excited...btw, could gibve two turds about "the other band" album...no more Elixers, please... confused

10 out of 10 in terms of promo-media circus-business: Prince back with Warners??? Prince releasing his music like a NORMAL artist again????? maybe a PROPER world tour??? ARE YOU F KIDDIN' ME? excited biggrin

I'm not anticipating PR30 and although it's supposedly announced, I find it hard to imagine that Prince will not want to be hands on for the remaster since he was the producer of the record. That probably means he'll want to redo it in some way and even if that flies, I'm not anticipating I'd want the replacement version. Besides, it would be, perhaps, the most unnecessary remaster as that album was produced mixed and mastered really brilliantly (I've only ever heard vinyl).

As for the others, I'm pretty much like y'all. The momentum seems to be lacking at this point. If somebody had offered me a copy of Plectrum Electrum at the back of one of the gigs at Camden, they'd be armless now but, as it is, if I forget to come back in to the org after next week, I'll probably end up missing the releases entirely.

In 'radio' times now seemingly far off, where you'd actually hear Prince records on the radio, especially new ones, there was no question of this happening. If it did, b some quirk of fate, then there'd be a video to catch. None of these things are likely to happen.

So tomorrow when I forget the interwebs were ever invented (I've done this every Monday since 1998), I'll probably also forget....erm...I've forgotten

AOA: 10/10 -- I'm crazy excited for this album! I play Clouds, Breakdown, U Know and BCW back-to-back a few times daily and they sound awesome together. Hearing them somewhat in context (Clouds/Breakdown are together on the album and so are U Know/BCW) has made me love each song individually even more. I've also heard the low quality rip of What It Feels Like that's around and I like it quite a bit as well. As it stands now, AOA is looking like it might rank in my top 15 Prince albums ever (and maybe higher depending on what's to come).

.

PlecElec: 7/10? 6/10? -- This one is tough to call. I'm kinda "meh" on Pretzelbodylogic and Fixurlifeup. Whitecaps is really pretty and the performance is heartfelt but it doesn't quite come together in the end. Still, I love rock Prince and I always expected to be gaga about this album when it was only theoretical. We'll see when it comes out, obviously, but right now I'm so excited by the potential of AOA that PlecElec is almost an afterthought to me.

If people are already playing the songs, what's there to anticipate? The internet has spoiled everything, nothing is a surprise anymore! You can hear things and purchase them even before they are to "come out". That's why people aren't excited about anything anymore for more than 2 minutes, before they move on and are looking for the next thing to interest them. It's sad!

2. I think I've heard enough of the songs to know they'll get a couple of listens when I first get them, then probably never be played very much again.

25 years ago albums were often premiered on radio days or weeks before the release. I had taped at least half the tracks from D&P from a radio premiere a week or so before the release (yes, an offficial one, sanctioned by Warners) and was dumbfounded at how bad they were; I was hoping the other half of the album contained "the good stuff".

.

In Holland, SOTT was actually leaked weeks before the release when someone discovered that the CD of one artist they'd bought didn't contain the album they expected, but unknown music which turned out to be SOTT. A radio show was handed this mispressing and played several tracks, angering the radio station that was going to have the official premier of the album a day or so later.

Purple Rain reissue - 9 hoping for a huge remastering and bonus goodie blowout fest here. And also because that other classic Warner Brothers albums may get the same treatment. biggrin

PR is rehash with three unheard 'new' songs at most. (that is my feeling, not even a gamble)

Art Official Age - 6-8 I think. Quite like most of what I have heard with Clouds as a solid favourite. So good to great but lack of real gems hinders it from a 10

Plectrum Electrum - 4-5, potentially six when saved by 'Wow'. There is something good in all heard track but they seriously suffer from some cheesy juvenile lyrics and lack of subtlety, ie the silly shouting/chorus of Pretzel.. and Fixyour.... Whitecap is musically very pleasing to the ear and I also think Hannah does a good job, but I can's help it could be beter vocally
