"Affectation" is a noun. "Affect" has been misapropriated as a synonym of "affectation" which it actually isn't. It is used in common contemporary English, however, so your point it noted.
Nevertheless, even as a noun, it is used incorrectly in this context. [Edited 9/1/14 23:49pm] |

"Affect" is a noun. It's a term used in philosophy and psychology. It's not "misappropriated", as it's been used for centuries.
I posted my response to you half-jokingly, of course. People outside those fields don't really use the word.

It has been misappropriated in common contemporary English as a synonym for "affectation". I can cite several journailistic examples of such. I am also aware of the noun form of "affect". It WAS used for centuries, however, is now considered obsolete or "redundant lexicon". I have a degree in this so I'll stop now. [Edited 9/1/14 23:59pm] |

Right, to the topic.
It's not a if Prince hasn't had final approval on any of this stuff is it? For good or bad this is the phase we're in and believe it or not, Prince might just be happy! I really wasn't keen on U Know when I listened to it but I'm not going to blame that on Joshua when Prince has put it out there. After all, Joshua was producer on Fallinlove2nite and I love that track.
It's as if some people think Prince was sitting there and Josh was forcing him to put these tracks out. Hang on though, maybe that is what happened? Maybe Prince is having a hissy fit and that's why he didn't appear on Good Morning America for the announcement?

On the subject of the thread though, Prince has final sign off on all his output, he obviously likes the tracks so the blame lies on him, no one else. However to be fair, I quite like the new tracks, I wasn't mad on Fall in luv 2nite but the production on clouds is great when listened to on a good sound system. |

Oh, you should stop. You're obviously confused about what you are trying to argue for.
The word is still commonly used in higher education as a noun. There's even a theory branch called "affect theory" that is among the most popular ones in literary studies right now. In any case, nouns don't stop being nouns simply because most people don't use them. It's ridiculous to even imply otherwise.

Ugh, you must be American? In British English, spelt is the preferred spelling. However we tolerate spelled over here due to the sad butchering of our delightful language by our overseas cousins. And yes, the fish sure smelt like a fish yesterday. But as with spellled, we also tolerate those who smelled like a fish yesterday. RIP |

I genuinely get sick of reading negative post about Joshua Welton, Larry Graham, & any other person so many of you people can't stand, because of some affect effect they "had/have" on Prince. Prince is the person to blame for every last bit of these relationships. He is a grown man. No one told him to listen to any of these people...he did it himself. He made these choices. People blaming Joshua Welton for how the new songs sound...........PRINCE IS THE ONE CHOOSING THESE DAMN SONGS!!! Just face the facts......
You all know what they are........
I don't have to say shit.
Edited for accidentally typing in "affect", instead "effect", & some lame, who is bringing nothing to the discussion just HAS to point it out to make them self feel good. It's fixed now. Hope you had a good time.
[Edited 9/1/14 23:44pm]
I personally don't blame anyone for anything. I always appreciated whatever Kirk and Larry brought to the mix and so far vaguely criticized 's choice of Josh because I have been traumatized by one music video Josh has posted on his YT account, and not so convinced so far by what he brought to the soup. Nonetheless I would never attack Josh personally, as a human being, neither would I blame him for taking a gig had offered him in the first place (who wouldn't take such a gig?). + Josh still has the benefit of doubt, not until I hear AOA will I beable to measure the impact his contribution has on 's music, and whether I enjoy it or not. |

You can't lock this! Better to discuss things where there is a tangible right or wrong like grammar than argue about subjective things like good or bad music .
Thinking about it, Larry is quite old and American, so maybe he can be blamed for spelled instead of spelt? Hmmm. RIP |
