From Soft and Wet to U KNOW, what is Prince's favorite Prince song? If Prince, in retrospect, would agree to select his favorite Prince song and Prince album, what would it be? (Background to question:)
Here's this man, Prince. He has often released a song/album only to express a sense of boredom in a relatively short time span to get on to the next thing. He often has said that that "next big thing" is to be his biggest, greatest thing "yet." Interview responses from him have that "required" sense of excitement for his own next big project or protege project, because it comes promotion time and getting the buzz out requires the animation. Prince fans know best as to some point in time in an albums singles release-flow when it becomes apparent Prince has "moved on."
Perhaps he has already been asked this before. Maybe he might say he doesn't care. That is in consideration, yes. And music is a product of its time, so he might hold back any response.
My question then is, If Prince, in retrospect, would agree to select his favorite Prince song and Prince album, what would it be?
I suspect his response would be something like, "all of it" in some quirkly clever Prince way.
Would he really say Purple Rain? Would he really say SOTT?
I'm talking about released projects. I don't think he'd say any of the bootleg stuff. Although I could imagine he might say his favorite stuff has never been released.
If Prince were to say something before U KNOW... Like, say, Purple Rain, since he is so smart and knows all components of this favorite project of his, why would he not recreate that "excitement." Therefore, with that in mind, he may say he's not interrested in "THAT" excitement anymore, sooo he might not even select Purple Rain as his favorite. That's why I'm curious to ask.
You know better than me probably. Part of this question involves perhaps your observed evidence of his excitement before an album being out that might clue in as to what was closest to his heart.
To throw in there: Graffiti Bridge seemed close to his heart. His acting hinted this fire within him to be understood (no mind whether the acting was bad or good).
Anyway, just wondered if you had a thought. If not, so be it! Enjoy!

He has said many times that his favorite song is "the next one." We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

his fav song is 'the next one' which was recorded on febuary 27th 1997 and is said to only exist in demo form I'm feeling a bit fammy™

He has indeed seemed to perform the beautiful ones quite often throughout the years! Yes, this could be his life song. I wonder. Since Sign O the times apparently "moved" Prince to do the concert story-telling film, I can see the closeness to this project perhaps. Yes, The Cross he may say is a high point of that project. Sott got a little chipped away from its vision apparently with the reduction from 3 records down to the 2 records. I don't know if Prince is was upset about that or what, making that project be potentially less than what he thinks it could have been.

Yes, isn't it brilliant to keep that momentum into the future. It's quite a joyful celebration of the new thing, that great musical discovery just over the horizon. That's why I wonder what he might bring up as his favorite past project.

Yes, and since Prince has apparently been strapped/ bound down to astrological universe guidance, whatever is his best has to have the 7s in it. So that "the next one" song is a good candidate. I wonder thought if the demo tape one he did 7/7/77, just before For You, he'd say was his best. It was a Pepe Project. Haha

Actually on Arsenio this year he said he "normally" answers "the next one" but his new answer is "The Breakdown". I kid you not...

If that's the case , his new fav will be U Know then

That's funny you bring up Arsenio. I was thinking that question was brought up to him (again, I guess). Yeah, he did say "the next one" didn't he. And for reals, he said The Breakdown? I think I vaguely remember that answer too from whatever. Arsenio as well?
I was "digging" a little deep a couple of days ago while listening to The Breakdown. I was trying to listen to what he was "saying."
"Keep breaking me down, down, down...."
It's a beautiful idea...like chipping him down to the core, to the heart, upon him learning something very important, and learning what to value more in life.
Sooooo....I can see how the breakdown he could say as his favorite.
BUT, I mean it's not probably my favorite. But i respect Prince's thoughts as he vaguely voices them in interviews, whatever.
Thanks for your thoughts!

Omg this is like nailing jello to a wall.
Why is this question even being asked? [Edited 9/2/14 16:45pm]

It's actually Gangsta Glam, he admitted it in a recent interview. Heavenly wine and roses seems to whisper to me when you smile...

So that I could learn that phrase! Nailing jello to a wall! Has someone said that before? Did you make it up? coo

You mean the push ups by the pool song? You mean the roller skate song? You mean the slide on a yellow corvette song? Yes, I can see the deepness going on with that message

IDK if this is true but reportedly he hates it when people tell him that "X is my favorite album" or "X is my favorite song" (of his), he likes it when u tell him u dig his work but the "favorite" part is to be avoided. ANyway how many of us could chose their "favorite " song? I certainly couldn't. I couldn't probably even pick my favorite 100 songs at this point, so I doubt that HE could. . If I had a week to lose doing something useless I'd go to Princevault and count how many time each song has been per4med live and we'd see, besides the obvious hits that'd top the list, which songs r the most played, but I don't have a week to waste, sorry A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

You forgot "the black mankini song", that's the most important part. Heavenly wine and roses seems to whisper to me when you smile...

I agree, its glory is too good for this earth, it deserves to join the celestial bodies in the heavens. Heavenly wine and roses seems to whisper to me when you smile...
