No ritual, I'll go to work, download it and listen to it while getting interrupted a dozen or so times.

Take the day off from work?
When I was young and had nothing else to do, I'd run to the local record store and buy it as soon as they opened.

I ordered both albums on Amazon; they sent a response saying they'd be delivered the day of release.
By the time I get home from work and deal with the daily routine, I'll be lucky if I open the box that night.
If I do, I'll load them onto my computer, quickly read through the liner notes, and maybe listen to them on my prep and lunch periods at work the next day.

The time for devoting my life to Prince are over...

Might be nice to take the day off just to not have to listen to the music here and there over the next few days because I'm too busy.

I'd like to listen to the music as soon as it becomes available. That way, my opinions don't get clouded or influenced by those of others. As soon as it's widely available, people will be posting about it all over Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and of course here. And I'll be one of those people


Staying off those sites isn't an option for me so I want to hear the music before I read what others are saying about it.

I guess it's not really "release day ritual" though, since the likelihood is that the album will leak at least a few days before release if not more. And of course, in some countries, the release is as early as the 26th, so I anticipate it'll probably leak before the 22nd. I have no moral qualms about downloading leaks when I've already pre-ordered the albums.

Oh man. I used to go to the smaller record stores and try to get them to sell it to me the album before the release date. Back in the Diamonds and Pearls Era, at a mall store, I got the manager to bring a copy of the album out to me, and when I saw the cover I pretty much lost my shit! Prince about to drop the BOMB, lol! I used to have hookups that would trade or give me the store posters, though I never did get a Prince cut-out from retail, and for me that was the holy grail. But album release day is still important to me. I used to want to hear new Prince music the instant it was available to be heard, but this time I've pretty much avoided having hearing any of the tracks on the new albums, just bits and pieces. So I'm excited for release day. I hadn't though of taking the day off work, but it sounds like a great idea. I used to play his enitire catalog in order leading up to release day, I've probably still got time to do that, but I better get started soon.

I had a "ritual" when I was younger (high school and college), but as I've gotten older, with a wife, family, and job, other things have taken precedent. Yes, I still look forward to new Prince releases as I have continued to love what he's done over the past years, but now my "ritual" is generally purchasing it the first or second day of release and finding some alone time after work and family duties to give a full, uninterrupted listen. Damn, I'm old...

I will immediatly load the lot onto my ipod and do the house work and rock out. Usually i listen but only sort of to half a song and skip to the next at first, because i always feel i am missing smoething by not moving on quick enough

ha, with u all the way Rom'. Day off, download onto POD , get into car & drive for ages taking in every track!

Me too....always follow my release day ritual of taking the day off and plugging in my best headphones and just chill taking it all in...
