With 3RDEYEGIRL dropping PLECTRUMELECTRUM on Warner Brother Records, that's three eras of Prince backing bands sharing co-billing on Prince's Warner Bros. albums with The Revolution in the '80s, New Power Generation in the '90s and 3RDEYEGIRL in the new millenium. It speaks to Prince's faith in this women that he would not only record an album on 3RDEYEGIRL but have their album released on WB-a major label that will give them the push for the opportunity to be big. Does anybody think this band will drop more than one album during their tenure with Prince?

The girls in the band will stay in the band 2 more years max before they want to do their own thing with their own music and creative pursuits. From a marketing point of view, they are new, young and fresh to a demographic Prince is trying to reach. PLECTRUM ELECTRUM is the album I want to hear the most. I think this band deserves one more album and then after that, on to the next backing band.

I may be wrong but we have been hearing rumors on this 3rd Eye girl album for 20 months, almost 2 years?
This may be hearsay
but i recall hearing that he/they were waitng till they had enough good material to put a album out.
2 years is a mighty long time in prince land. My guess he will move on and they may be recurring members of the NPG

Now dont get me wrong, I'd welcome a album or 2
hopefully we don't have to wait another 3 or 4 years to see it

Donna, Hannah and Ida playing in the NPG looks and sounds so weird. Donna especially. She always looks like she is just trying to get through the gig more than actually enjoying playing in that band. Donna and Hannah are not funk players. You may be right that he will ditch the 3RDEYEGIRL concept to focus on in the NPG, but 3RDEYEGIRL as a separate entity is more interesting and promosing. Prince is center stage, playing the music rather than being an conductor of his large ensemble playing aimless funk grooves. Only time will tell, but I hope we get one more album before then.

Considering that there have been like at least four totally different versions of the NPG makes the name alone more self-parody than a meaningful band name. When Prince once said "Revolutions" only happen once" in response to reunion rumors, somebody here always used to say "How long can Power Generations be new?"

Prince loves hiring and firing bands. He influenced Bruce Springsteen to do it, and when Bruce finally put the E Street Band back together, his live act improved by leaps and bounds. You kind of have to have a proper mix of serious musicians and the right personalitites...that's why a mix of the 1984-1988 bands would be best for him...maybe Sonny T on bass from the later bands, and Michael B or John Blackwell on drums, and Sheila on other percussion and sometimes drums.

I don't know how long this lasts, but I'm very happy that he tried something new, a new concept, a new name. The power generation isn't NEW since a very long time.

I'd say this depends on how the album is received, particularly the songs that don't feature Prince on lead vocals. In that sense, it's a good thing Prince is dropping his solo album at the same time. You know if Plectrum Electrum was the only album being release, some people would cause such a fuss about the fact that he's not singing leads on some of the songs.

Although...considering how many folks have been in his realm of bands that supposedly had albums that eventually never saw the light of day, they're doing good.
