A thread was closed that was discussing the 2011-2014 tracks that didn't make the cut in favor of this more general outtakes thread, so I'm gonna stick to 2011 onwards. . I've gotta admit I was at the same time annoyed and relieved that so many of the 2011-2014 tracks didn't make the cut for the 2 new albums. Annoyed because I find some of them wonderful and I'd have loved to have them sequenced on a proper album instead of just flying around in my harddrive. Relieved because of course it means more new tracks, and there's a part of me that woulda been frustrated to have so many tracks I was already familiar with on the new album. Would there have been a third record it'd have been OK, but with 2 I'd ather have more new material I guess. . Nonetheless there r several tracks I really like that probably could have made the cut in terms of cohesiveness of the sound: Extraloveable, Boyfriend, Ain't Gonna Miss U When U're Gone and Fallinlove2nite would probably have been perfect on the synthfunk/R&B/radio-friendly sound of AOA. Screwdriver, Bambi 2013 and Live Out Loud would also probably have worked on PlecEl (PE is Planet Earth so we may need to start calling it PlecEl or PLEL, IDK?). Others I liked a lot were the Octopus and Menstrual jams but I guess they were too "Xpectation" for PLEL, R&RLA but it was maybe too rock for AOA and too pop for PLEL, and my little darling Same Page, Different Book, which I really cherish but probably had too much of an organic, classic funk vibe for either album. On the other hand Musicology and 3121 managed to have a cohesive vibe with very different tracks, so nothing I guess was impossible in the absolute. . So in the end what do I say? I say once all that BS with WB is over, could and should release one or 2 new digital-only albums in the vein of TCI and TS, compiling random internet tracks from 2004 onwards. I'm quite sure some of the Musicology era virtual b-sides/non-album singles and later orphan songs such as Song Of The Heart, F.U.N.K., In A Large Room, Rich Friends, Hot Summer, Turn Me Loose and the 2011-2014 online tracks could make a nice compilation album or 2. But I'm not dreaming, I guess it's out of the question. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Ah OK. Thx 4 clarifying. Well it's been 16 years since Newpower Soul and The War (13 since the cancelation of Peace) so I'd say it's unlikely. Now why not, sure. But there's is zero reason to assume this may be happening again or that any announced "surprise" should be a NPG album unless it's been explicitely hinted at by an official source. Im pretty sure it is. When the entire Prince camp tells you to follow someone its most likely because its an official account. Change it one more time..

My thoughts also. | |

I think Big City and Shades of Umber might have been recorded with the NPG horns as well. Maybe Michael B Nelson could clarify. The wooh is on the one!

U Will Be was renamed and given to Rita Ora according to Funkenberry. Doesn't even resemble the same track as Ora and P reportedly rap on it now. :/

I'm sure. "U Will Be" was performed at the Forum shows and then was given to Andy where a demo was "released" and then it has been changed and given to Ora.

Ok - I was under the impression that the Rita Ora song was called champagne kisses or something like that, and that her rapping happens in one of the AOA songs. Oh well...

U Will Be = Champagne Kisses now.
Rita Ora: "It was incredible. I went to Minneapolis. I still haven't wrapped my head around it actually. It is probably one of the most surreal things I've ever done. I can't really explain it, you kind of have to listen to the song. It was called 'U WIll Be', then it was called 'Pink Champagne', and now it's called 'Champagne Kisses'. It has such great lyrics - so poetic, it's so nice. There's a line where he says, 'The taste of you with someone else, like chocolate cake with no milk'."

I was talking about the songs that were officially released/streamed, IDK anything about those 2 (never even heard them ^^). A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Shame, it's a great song; I don't mind Rita Ora, and it should be ok if they keep it simple, I just hope they don't make it sound as generic as some of her music sounds...

Compiling these into an album would be a monumental waste of time and resources, on his part and the paying audience. He should continue to make them for sale, but why waste the energy on putting together an album of leftovers and disparate one-offs from almost 2 years ago?

I imagine that P fought very hard with WB to get PE released along side AOA. I doubt WB would allow yet another album to be released. Unless, that is, he did it like Exodus and took a back seat on the vocals and credited a pseudonym (Tora Tora) on the record.

no one wants a big horn album' Prince realized there is no commercial viability to releasing Big fuckign City ..I , for one, hope hopes he leaves the horns out of his next tour
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
how do you know he fought hard, maybe it was easy

Notice how I used the words "I image" to precede the rest of the sentence? You see, an opinion was expressed which is why I preceded my comment with those words. Maybe you accidently read those words as "I know". Easy mistake to make. . Bloody factual police everywhere!

A song I love is : Liathach. It was performed live on a few dates in 2013, an instrumental written by Jo Hamilton (?) Don't know much else about this but I enjoyed the recordings I heard.

I am quite pleased that 'big city' got away.... Heard it in Montreux and it just seemed las vegas-cheesy with too much horns. The studio version could of course be different.
I'd rather see 'U will be', 'U want me' etc be released as b-sides or something.

According to Baron3121 last night on the Spreecast, Dr. Funkenberry announced that there will be a 3rd Prince album with the NPG coming with "Big City" and "Groovy Potential" among other tracks.

the short snippet we heard wouldn't do anything to change your opinion. too many horns going in too many directions/nowhere. and going there in the most bland and lazy fashion imaginable.

3 albums? Hell yes, the brotha is making up for the last 4 years of no releases it seems.
