Im glad these are being sold as separate albums. With MPLSound & Lotus many people that would have enjoyed only one of the albums were forced to get both. And we know Prince's audience is divided in the post 90's years between those who enjoy all of his sounds, those who only like more R&B/Funk sounds and those who like his more pop/rock stuff..
For me I am looking forward to PE just slightly more than AOA because the guitarwork on PE (title track) and Pretzlebodylogic is fucking awesome. That said I'm loving Clouds too. I've not replayed one of his R&B track this much since Sticky Like Glue. Change it one more time..

While this is true, you can't knock Lotus you had 3 discs for the price of one of the new ones. RIP

I fully agree. I am intrigued to hear how Prince produced 3RDEYEGIRL as recording artists and musicians. Prince has released albums in the vein of ART OFFICIAL AGE (20Ten, MPLSOUND, 3121, Rave), but not since Gold Experience has Prince used a band he formed from scratch as a vehicle for a full length album. I would rather hear 3RDEYEGIRL on record finding their stride, than Prince trying to placate fans who are stuck in the '80s. I pre-ordered both albums, but PLECTRUM ELECTRUM if I can get on vinyl will be the one getting the most spins. Donna is the perfect foil for him, someone he can lean on for inspiration as a guitarist and challenge each other. U hinted at something I fin entirely intriguing and which turns me on. Working with the young girls and hearing them come together as a group in such a short time. we kinda got to hear them learn each other. To have much of it documented is great as well. From the live YouTube cuts to the live stream cuts. They're not the greatest band ever by any means, but the growth is VERY impressive given the time frame. P and ida worked with those to youngins well. I hope they eventually leavebthenfold, Donna and hanna, with a lot under their belts. To have much of their journey compiled on record is exciting to me. I hope the electrum electrum cut is the one from the video. Love it. I hope there's more live studio performamce ready to release after the records out a la plectrum was. That really sold me on getting excited.

So far, I think Plectrum will blow AOA out of the water. WHITECAPS was released today and it has so much depth to it. I'd like for P to stop trying to have a radio hit. Sounds like he wants AOA to be all over the top 40 (if that still exists). Plectrum is the one.

Plectrum only after today.

I am pretty sure I am buying PE but am definately not buying AOA. On the other side of the spectrum cds I am definately buying this month are Harts, John Mellencamp and Lenny Kravitz. The album of the year so far is Body Count's Manslaughter. Overall its been a great music year!!

That is exactly how I feel about AOA. Just AWFUL!! PE has potential as long as Hannah is not singing more songs than Whitecaps. That one is pretty bad!! I like PBL, PE, Wow and FYLU.

AoA. I love Breakfast Can Wait. I'm liking U Know. Overall what I heard, I'm digging AoA more.

Surely that can't have been the Plectrumelectrum version? Some alternate Joshua version? It doesn't have the 3rdeyegirl sound at all. Hundalasiliah!

PlectrumElectrum, for me. I'm liking the AOA tunes to date, but they seem a liitle too contrived/commercially driven compared to, say, LotusFlower - as a recent release. AOA, is more of a MPLSound/NewPowerSoul kinda vibe (with a hint of Sign and Lovesexy - imo).
A funk/rock album and an RnB/soul/funk album is out soon - should please differnt peeps P tastes, but there will and is always some discontent and unsatisfied folk. Each to their own.
I'm looking forward to both releases and I'm sure will like both, in differnet ways. I'm just pleased we'e gettig some new tunes and both albums promise a cohesive flow/theme/sound.

I personally enjoy Prince's rock material better. So I'm looking forward to Plectrum. Prince, in my opinion, has a problem making you feel his emotions through his vocals these days. The last time I actually felt what he was singing was on the Gold Experience album. Almost felt it on the Breakdown, but he totally lost me about halfway into the song. But...The guy can make you feel any emotion through his guitar. He can not say a word, and still make you feel love, sadness, hurt, anger and a plethora of emotions just by playing his guitar.

i like everything i've heard from it so far, including "what it feels like", which was premiered during one of the live streams last year. . from the listening preview write up, we know that there is at least one very weird electronic song on there. "the gold standard" was described as being 'percolating funk' and then there was that song with rita ora which they said had 'a menacing beat'. i'm looking forward to those. . plus i'm expecting the theme of the album to be pretty far out weird sci fi prince rantings i always love those. the spoked part in "clouds" and the 3 'affermations' on the album probably narrate the theme. (the names of the songs on AOA are written in caps but the affirmations are just normal letters, leading me to think they are not songs but some sort of narration) . looking forward to PLEC as well, but i don't really like the stuff i've heard from that album so far. only really hoping there will be one or two other tracks that feature only prince on vocals that i'll really like. but not holding my breath right now. who knows, i might end up being pleasantly surprised.
Yes. This. The mystery is what's been missing for too long. We got a little bit of it on lotusflower but not enough. Plectrum stuff is just too on the nose, lyrically and musically. We've always loved him for his eccentricity. I want it back. [Edited 9/1/14 16:43pm]

those lyrics are like a Christopher Guest parody of Prince.
