Personal opinions regarding the quality of music aside... 2 albums in the Billboard top 10, 1 of which being number 1 in the rock album chart and the other number 1 in the rnb/hip hop chart... You guys are seriously petty enough to consider this project a flop? Wouldn't you love to love me?

Maybe not in the US but in the UK AOA is down to 39 and PE is out of the top 40 completely already She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo

Official New Zealand chart
http://www.charts.org.nz/weekchart.asp?cat=a . Both albums are out of the Top 40 after just one week. Its sad, but not surprisng given there has been no promotion at all of them. . Last week AOA debuted at #17 and Plectrum Electrum at #31. It's a shame given how good they are and that both major Auckland papers gave them 4/5 stars and a glowing review.
It seems there may just be only a handful of us Kiwi Prince fans left. . Meanwhile British singer Ed Sheeran occupies the #1 spot. [Edited 10/13/14 3:14am] Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

We will know 2mrw what the 2nd week U.S. numbers are. Looks like AOA will be in the top 20 and PE out of the top 40...

I was quite surprised both records were so high in the charts the first week. Even so thats a huge fall in one week.

With no radio plays, no video, no tv performances, the albums will fall everywhere... But it seems Prince wants it that way... But still a success to have two albums that were all over the world top 10 ( AOA) or Top 20 (PE)... What i donĀ“t get is...P must be and can be very proud of the records, so the last two years he performed on tv in the US and now (around release time) not even one time... Strange )

What are you all surprised about. I was there in June and the Maccanese love Prince as you can see here. . [img:$uid]http://i1081.ph.../img:$uid] . In the streets. . [img:$uid]http://i1081.ph.../img:$uid] . At the ruins of St Paul .[img:$uid]http://i1081.ph.../img:$uid] . In Senada square . [img:$uid]http://i1081.ph.../img:$uid] . And even on the fort. . Funny how all this graffiti arrived when I was there. Seriously, I expected more from Macau, all tacky casinos and run down apartment buildings. The Chinese have nearly sucked the Portuguese vibe out of the place. Streets full of gamblers from China, buying the same jewellery and dried meat from multiple branches of the same 3 store. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Babs literally guest hosted The Tonight Show. Amazing what PROMOTION can do for sales.

the dropoff at -68% off of the first week's sales is not too too bad.. it aint great, make no mistake.. but it is kind of standard.....
if it is any consolation... the new bob seger album is projected between 50k-60k units in its first week.. so comparable to P
the new U2 album is projected at 25k units.. which is a TOTAL disaster no matter how you slice it.. even with the giveaway.....
P needs to promote this thing - if he even cares.. he just may not care at all.. who knows.

There is still hope for AOA hopefully the SNL performnce won't be too late...
But PE totally bombed... Off the Top 60 spots on the 2nd week and looks like can be one of Prince's lowest selling albums since N.E.W.S.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
yep agreed PE is a different story.. but to be honest... you have to expect that the one labeled just Prince is going to sell better.. Prince isnt on the cover/People probably dont want to spent $ on 2 albums/Their attention can only be handle 1 album not two..
probably would have done better if served up alone and if it was more like a Prince & the NPG type scenario where its clearly a Prince project.. this has the vibe of Prince is just 'involved'
hope that makes sense.

P needs to promote this thing - if he even cares.. he just may not care at all.. who knows. The U2 thing is a giveaway and also MANY stores are not carrying it as a boycott, plus there is some confusion now with the bonus if you want it digital it actually says it's a preorder when in reality the disc is in stores. For them to sell 27,000 of an album that was given away free and now stores are charging up to 16 dollars for that one bonus disc as sort of punishment for giving it away free, don't matter they got their 100 million and the album will be steady for the tour. For Prince the album is falling quick lets face it he sold double what U2 did but he didn't give it away a month before. And sad to say I don't think SNL is gonna help it much since this shows ratings are awful. Plectrum will be off the charts in about 3 more weeks and AOA should hold on for about 2 months but don't expect it to pass 120,000 overall "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

you cant compare album sales now that they sell so little for everyone...album sales are dead...people aint buying music now generally....prince was a huge seller when albums sold by the millions back in the 80s and now he is huge draw as a live act now that concerts are where the big money is...he cant complain too much.

There are other artists who sell more and don't fall off the charts that fast.

Problem is that it really didnt do much then, though 3121 did debut at #1 for him, that was also almost a decade ago and their were singles and videos, he did Good Morning America that summer, he played BET awards he seemed more organized with the promo. This seems very "oh by the way" i have new album, to me it wont matter what he plays on SNL because it isnt really gonna cause much of a change since there is no single or video exposing this album, Chris Rock hosting will give this falling almost dead show some ratings but, honestly he is playing November 1st on SNL in NYC, that is halloween weekend when everyone is going out no one is watching tv. So what he really needed was a U2 or Foo fighters residence on a show like Letterman a show that has ratings, Foo Fighters did it and their catalog shot through the roof, and topped with the HBO series, this looks to be a huge record for that INDIE band, yes the Foo's have been indie since day one. Prince needs some new thinking, or a team that isnt so much younger than him that they have no good ideas "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

UK chart update AOA position 67 weeks on chart 3 PlectrumElectrum out of the top 100 This confirms despite able to sell large UK venues for live gigs , Prince is a cult act that only us hardcores are interested in when it comes to selling albums .
