We will know more next wednesday...usually hitsdaily will give an indication about the US album chart... Blake Shelton and Lady Antebellum are tough competitors...especially Blake... But Prince had some high profile tv appearances, too.....Unfortunately in the last months or years ( Kimmel, Fallon, Billboard awards, new girl)... I have to admit i am a bit surprised about the lack of promotion right now... No radio single, no video, no tv appearances.... But to say this will be all for the album from Warner and Prince would be a bit to early... At least Top 3 in the US is possible and number one in the UK for AOA....

Amazon.com, for the release on September, 30 : #11 (+5) : Lucinda Williams (previous album on billboard: #15 ) #28 (+12) : AOA (previous album #2) #33 (+2): Blake Shelton (previous album : # 1 ) #34 (+2) : Lady Antebellum (previous album #1) #48 (+28) : PE (previous album on another name : RAVE, at #18 ) #57 (-13) : Melissa Etheridge (previous album #18)
So, until tomorrow and unless the Prince's progession continues, my take is the following for the future charts on 1st week :
#1 Lady Antebellum #2 Blake Shelton #3 AOA #4 Lucinda Williams #5 PE
Goodbye Melissa Etheridge And PR and the Very best of in the top 200. [Edited 9/25/14 1:06am]

PE may not be top 5, as Kenny Chesney's new album might sell more in its second week than PE does in its first (although his last album underperformed, so who knows). Since LF was trumped in '09 by Keith Urban, Prince needs to avoid big release weeks for country artists!

I didn't take into account the Gaga/Benett release this week too, currently at #2 on amazon. If it's a surprise success, AOA and PE might chart even lower. [Edited 9/25/14 6:34am] [Edited 9/25/14 6:56am]

I dont think PE is gonna debut in the Top 5, Top 10 most likely but again its gonna depend on how the other albums already out perform week 2 etc...so saying AOA will come in 2 or 3 might be off too, though most likely will "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Like Ludwig said, Prince is not an easy artist to catagorize when it comes to stocking his catalogue in a record store. I think they go with the Soul/R&B tag because as a general rule, I guess most people consider Prince to be Soul/R&B more than any of the other genres, as is other black artists such as Stevie Wonder and Lenny Kravitz. Kravitz suffers a similar fate to a lesser degree of Prince. Both artist fluctuate between R&B, Rock, Funk, Soul and in the case of Prince, occasionally Jazz. But I think in most cases, people would consider Prince a Soul/R&B artist.

I'm still blown away that WB didn't push to get some air play. AOA is full of some mainstream material, with Prince delivering it as only he can. What kinda deal did they sign, that virtually no promotional work was done for this album?

Art Official Age (the song) is the only track I skip on the album otherwise this album is 9.5/10. It gets better every time I play it.

The key will be if he can maintain any momentum with either album, there really is no promo for either outside of posters and flyers and things like that, radio play is not there, video play is absent so. We like it, critics pretty much like it some do some dont, in the end it will all be meaningless in a month when neither is even a blip on the charts or being talked about. Wow, anybody know what's going in with Swaziland? I've never known a Prince album to do well in Africa. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

This is gonna be another Gold Experience. Great album, with no proper WB push. I know they werent seeing eye to eye Prince at that time, but it was a HUGE mistake to disregard The Gold Experience. Appears they're dropping the ball once again.

Yes, i think he needs some radio play and a video plus tv appearances....But to be honest, as good as the records are, there is no big hit single on it....

Warners wanted to promote TGE aggressively, but it was Prince who was playing games. He shot a video for the first single "I Hate U",but refused to give it to Warners.I don't know what's going on with the promotion of the new albums, but I'm willing to bet that Prince, for whatever reason,is the one who's refusing to cooperate again.
