the past few days ive really got into Emancipation, to the point i even ordered it and am listening to it now! but its really for the 3rd CD because its so ahead of its time. the chorus of New World seems to be like a pop song and The Human Body seems to be a song in the style of house music. (the only house track ill openly play is The Human Body)
Prince, or TAFKAP (goodnight Rosie O'Donnell), stated Emancipation to be the album he was born to make and ive just noticed he was right. eye dont think U heard me . . .

I hope he is not becoming boring but I am slightly bored with all thats not going on now. After SOTT, I have been more blown away by songs than by a whole album. This Could Be Us But U Be Playin...

The last time I was suprised by his music was when Lotusflow3r came out, after that it went downhill and Im not feeling his new 3rdeyegirl material at all. But Im I hoping that his new solo album is at least better than 20ten Welcome 2 The Dawn

The rehersal recording of "always in my hair" from Paisley with 3eg is hardly boring.
the clips from Europe with Bambi, C&C etc are AMAZING.
What or who is NOT boring on the scene right now?
One direction?
The latest Paul Mccartney tour?
c'mon, other than Neil Y who keeps it better?

There's a certain progress in the weekly " is over and done" thread becoming a "Is over and done?", so I'm going to encourage this. . Define "surprise"? Would I be as surprised if I discovered the 80's albums today with all my current musical background as I was when I did in my teen years, when I knew so little? I don't think so. I'd enjoy them as hell for sure but I certainly wouldn't be mind-blown and think "I've never heard anything like this before" the way I was and did 25 years ago. . Does any music still surprise me? Please me, sure: LOADS of music please me. But surprise? Every once in a while, yeah, but that's quite rare and that's people with a hell of a personal touch. I try to listen to at least one new album every day, sometimes 2, so u know, I don't get surprised so easily anymore I guess. . So in the end IDK. I guess slightly surprised me with several songs lately, in fact, not because the music was surprising by comparison to the whole world but because I didn't expect him to go in such or such particular direction. Rock & Roll Love Affair surprised me: I didn't expect to record an 80's rock FM song. Live Out Loud surprised me, it's not specifically original in the absolute but it hardly sounds like a song at all and I didn't expect to record something like that. Sometimes I'm surprised when he goes back to old things I didn't expect him to revisit, such as with Ain't Gonna Miss U When U're Gone and its typical 87-88 vibe (Sticky Wicked, Scarlett Pussy, etc.) or even the Parade-like vibe of FallInLove2Nite (if you take out the Weltonesque dance beat and cheap synth sound, there's something in the vein of Splash in that song, the happy-go-lucky-let's-go-to-a-hotel-room-in-Nice-and-drink-champaign-on-the-balcony mood). Same with the 3EG instrumentals from last summer, it was a lot like Xpectation but with a rock vibe instead of the jazz one and I hoped for 10 minutes he'd do more things like this (10 minutes being the time it took HIM to decide he wouldn't). . So I guess the answer to the original question is yeah, in some ways, but I'm not sure this is a meaningful question in my case at least. Does still make music that I like a lot? Yes, definitely, all the time. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

The thrill is gone... while he still has some moments of brilliance, when we listen to the variety of his 80s catalogue we are often blown away because he was just so out of this world. Oh well - my expectations of Prince have changed in recent years. I do not expect him to write anything as wicked as Annastesia or freaky as Head or memorable as I wanna Be Your Lover or anything as strange as Little Red Corvette or lyrics as cool as Raspberry Beret.
I will continue checking for what he does next but am not holding my breath that he will return to brilliance when in reality he no longer has a sound of his own like he did in his hey day! Fortunately, we still have all of that music and the bootlegs from between 78 and i'd say 94 or so.

Do we really need to go over this again & again & again? How can an artist be boring if we keep coming back here discussing him? His new music may be no good to some old time fans, but they sure have an opinion about it, so boring? No. [Edited 8/19/14 10:07am]

This song and picture was the most recent surprise to me from Prince. When this appeared out of the blue the feelings it gave me were fresh and new. It put a smile on my face because it instantly recaptured feelings from my youth, being on a motorcycle, close to the one U love, feeling free and unstopable. Not to mention the reminder of that steamy relationship from Purple Rain wondering if it is Apples that he truly loves
It felt like he picked out this picture of his past that captured feelings of love, freedom and something unresolved or unknown. Without making it perfectly clear how and who was 'playing' it brought new interest about the mystery that is Prince. Is it just a tease? Or a cover to his real feelings? I find the tune catchy and sweet whatever he meant it to be
I think that with Prince there will forever be interest about his life and questions will always be asked. He pulled this from his past work and made it something fun and new. I don't think that I'm the only one who wonders about Princes' private, personal life. If someone could or would be playing with his feelings today, is he's singing about someone new or past protege? For sure, Prince will always be a mystery that I want to unravel 2Gether 4Ever

His mind games, suing and ripping off his fans, inferior websites, his hypocricy and his cult of personality shtick have become boring and have been for quite a while now. The music, when he releases it, is still occasionally challenging and often quite good, even measured against his own standards. I'm just bored with the cat and mouse games, the "now you see me, now you don't act" and that for the last 10 or 15 years, Prince seems more interested in "being Prince" than he does "freeing the music".
.
I suppose that goes with the package though. Without the ginourmous ego, we never wouldn't have gotten we got. Same for most really good artists, but I can't recall one who goes as far out of thier way to shit on thier fans as Prince seems to enjoy doing.

As a songwriter and studio musician, Prince is finished, at least until we have some evidence to the contrary.

funkaholic1972 said: Speak out, you Purple freaks! [Edited 8/19/14 5:33am] I think on cd and maybe even his gigs (although they still remain unbeatable) there's been nothing of note or difference for such a long time that, personally, I have to refer back to his old stuff. The last 7 or 8 years have been really nondescript in terms of a career. I realised today that, even with all his albums on my player in the car, I'm skipping track after track after track because they've been played to death P-p-e-n-g-u-i-n......the P is silent

To be honest with y'all: I just started this topic because I was bored with Prince and Prince.org, and probably bored myself as a person too! - There is nothing happening in Prince land at the moment and here at the Org things are pretty boring too. Not many new interesting threads going on recently. - I am bored by the lack of a new album, these single tracks and snippets don't really do it for me. I agree with the poster who said that This Could Be Us was quite entertaining, so here I am hoping for a new album with some good songs like that. Although really, we have only heard the refrain, it could still be poor as far as a complete song, or have bad/uninteresting lyrics like so many new songs in the past two decades. - Anyway, the last time I was sort of pleasantly surprised was with the 20Ten album, I have played that one much more than his other new albums of the last 13 years. Before that The Rainbow Children was the last one that tickled me in a positive way, except some of the lyrics that were piss poor or sort of abusive. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Never got into Emancipation, I don't think I have ever been more disappointed by a new Prince album than with that one: 3 cds full of sugary saccharine overproduced boring unfunkiness! Face Down was the one song that came close to being pretty good but the damn production managed to ruin that song as well. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

No flames from me, mate, I agree that there are always a few songs on a new Prince album that are pretty good, although not life changing anymore. Might well be because I am older now too and less impressionable. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I can hear that the production and sound of that album was better than most of his output in the last 20 years but I didn't like many of the songs unfortunately. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...
