No. Have you heard nothing live from the past year? His voice is in top shape!

Are you commenting on what I posted above you? I was commenting myself on the live vocals.

In any case, I think the fans here are in denial if they think he's still singing as well live as he did during his best days as a live performer. He doesn't seem to be able to control the dynamics during some songs and he often sounds too monotonous when he sings some of the more melodic pieces. He also seems to resort to singing in a "punky" manner a lot these days (which is something he did in the early-90s too and that certainly wasn't to everyone's taste).

you hear it like me. it sounds more flat and hoarse to me too.

I can understand fans thinking it still sounds good but in top form? not to me..

Live performances of "Always in my hair" and "Mutiny" on Arsenio is proof enough to me.

I was replying to the OP but I have to disagree with you, as well. Watching Shepherds Bush atm and he sounds great even with the muffled sound of the recording.. Guess everyone hears something different.

listening to "Clouds" and "Breakfast can wait" makes me think his voice dosen'T really sound all that great on record anymore. He's losing his voice and that's normal with age but just saying it ain't the same anymore neutral

I Completely agree. I've been saying it for years. All of the touring, & getting up there in age. His vocal are definitely lacking nowadays.

I agree as well and I even had some friends ask me about it a couple of months back, I just told them - he's aged. I think his voice sounds a little flat but overall, I think he can fix it if he just works a little harder on his vocals and warms up properly. He sounds better now tho, than what he did last year. He still sings better than many contemporary male singers tho, which says a lot.

Singing like you don't care. Using hoarse / croaky tones for the notes that are harder to hit, not singing the ends of phrases properly etc.

It fits some of the songs, of course. The whole "3EG" era started with "Screwdriver" and that was a punk rock track (screeeew!!). And now that I think about it, the way he handles the melody on "Let's Go Crazy Reloaded" is almost something of a punk music cliché.

CharismaDove

I've been saying this.

As early as Musicology, I could hear his voice becoming weaker sounding. But his live performances showed he still had a good singing voice.

Nowadays, it's become painfully obvious he has singing problems. Whether he tries to disguise it by singing purposely nasally, with autotune, Camille, etc.. doesn't exactly hide it.

Maybe eye do, just not like eye did before pimp2

Eh, it doesn't really sound any different on record now than what it sounded like 10-15 years ago. On some songs when he's performing live he's had some problems, I think. I have to admit that some of those youtube clips he's posted I have not enjoyed listening to because he's sounded so hoarse.

you say that but how do you know some of the stuff he is releasing now wasn't recorded 10-15 years ago? in prince land he pulls out songs that are old and dusts them off. so who knows.
