I really, really dig the Art Official Age cover. Don't know why, I just dig it. The Plectrum Electrum cover though... Not so much.
I am quite excited for both though. [Edited 8/27/14 12:43pm] [Edited 8/27/14 12:43pm]

did you feel that way about Dirty Mind? i would rather have a 10 killer track album than a 16 track album that's half filler She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo
If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me?

Good point about Dirty Mind, but that was a lo-fi 'demo' album, released during an era when all albums were under 45mins. This is a "Brand New Age" according to Prince, so why can't we have the full futuristic 80mins!!!! (actually an itunes album can be as long as you want!). but on the flip side a shorter album allows you to focus on the songs and digest it as an artistic statement - the question is will the statement be any good?

I purchased the wav because it is lossless. I convert it to 16/44.4 FLAC. I don't care about the high resolution it might make some people happy. It's good to have the option.

RNR/ LIH Pt1 both released November 4, 2003. You can call LIH1 an EP if you want, but at 8 tracks/ 35 minutes (10 tracks/45 minutes in it's UK configuration).....it passes the duck test for me (and it charted in the US and UK album charts). RNR apppears to have sold about 200K copies in the US, which I believe make's it his 4th biggest selling album - don't know if i'd call that a flop?

I love Prince. I think of him as an older brother in a lot of ways because he was contantly in my universe as a kid/young adult.. but honestly I'm not too exicted about these releases... maybe I don't "get it" or whatever, but from what I've heard so far the material seems a bit underwhelming. And what about the PR re-release? What happened with that? [Edited 8/27/14 17:14pm]

Someone at Warner Bros is getting fired. Someone forgot that they are in the business of MAKING money, not LOSING money.
Doesn't take a cunning ear to see these records don't have any possibility of selling even mediocre amounts. A couple of bombs that will go plop. [Edited 8/27/14 17:27pm]

probably. but I was making a joke about the fact that this is the 4th time some of us have bought Breakfast Can Wait

He has a lot to say actually. However, it all amounts to nothing
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Good point. He even left out KISS, who released FOUR albums on the same day and, although they weren't all smash hits, sold quite well. And again, who cares if it works commercially anyway? Prince will get his cash. As long as the music is good everything's OK. He can parlay it into a tour or whatever.

Is one of the Funknroll tracks a remix? I hope so.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Very first thing I thought of, actually. Then again, we're dealing with a forum that took 2 days to get the 'Artifical Age' pun so whatever. And FunkNRoll is some tight shit. Gonna go listent to it now.

Eye heard both "FunknRoll"versions @ 's "MasterPiece" per4mance in Hollywood earlier this year!!! They're both FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!! will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! Attention span? Filler? He's no Michael Jackson that reocrds for five years and then chooses songs. It's better to have a quick kick-ass album of 45 minutes than an over produced dribble with filler that clock sin at 80 minutes. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Exactly, those early 90s albums are the worst! And I'm so glad Prince is still an overflow of music!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
OK, but then what exactly would have been required to sell records? And don't u come and dare tell me "good music" because of all things, good music doesn't sell. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I do not thhink you understand me. The average attention span is way too short for a long album. Longer albums tend to have filler. Longer albums take longer to make. 45 minutes is plenty when the quality is good. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Don't really understand all the hate for the cover of "Art Official Age" - I like it - although I don't like 3rdEyeGirl cover at all. Haven't listened to "Clouds" and keep averting my gaze when track listings appear on my screen whilst scrolling furiously - rather wait til September 30th and immerse myself - just like the old days.

Mmmm. I like it when Prince does his little instrumental noodling and squiggles, sometimes more interesting than his songs! He's written SO many songs, there's more than enough room for him to play about a bit - so noodle away Princey Boy - noodley squiggley soulia-colia.

....and I missed out Tom Waits who released Alice and Blood Money on the same day.

I'd be more excited if the 4 songs that I already bought up to 18 months ago weren't on the albums, particularly FixUrLifeUp and PBL, since I really detest both of them. But even with BCW and The Breakdown, both songs that I like pretty much, I resent that they're taking up the space that could be used for any of the other many songs that remain unreleased. It would be one thing if he was likely to release some b-sides, but he doesn't do that anymore. Also, since the mastering of "Clouds" is vastly superior to the mastering of "The Breakdown" (which is so distorted that it keeps me from listening to a song that I otherwise enjoy), what are the odds that "The Breakdown" will be corrected on the album? No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.
