Here's the kicker, though--and the reason for my mentioning this thing at all. Their plan for the article is the following: "For each of the 38 albums we’re looking at, we’ll try to pick the biggest, weirdest, and on-the-nosest tracks, and tell you whether this was the kind of soundtrack you could listen to straight through, or whether there was a “Computer Blue” to skip past. "

Okay, maybe people "out there" don't love the song, but is it the one anyone "in here" skipped? I was mainly listening on vinyl back in the day (now I generally hear Purple Rain tracks when they pop up in a shuffle--I can't remember the last time I listened to the album), so I wasn't skipping anything, but I generally arrange errands out of the room during "Take Me With U"--certainly not during "Computer Blue."

Computer Blue is sheer brilliance! Seriously.

If you dont like Computer Blue, then you shouldnt bother listening to Prince.

"Purple Rain" and "Darling Nikki" are GREAT. Solid gems in my opinion. Prince fans are just too overexposed to "Purple Rain" because he keeps doing it live. Imagine if he almost never did it live.

Don't think much of "Take Me With U" either.

Don't think much of the album version of "Baby I'm a Star". That one too becomes something quite different and more interesting in the live extended versions with their "suites" changes.

'Computer Blue' is the best song Prince ever recorded in my opinion, it has everything I like about a song, a groovy vibe, an atmosphere and a kick ass guitar solo.

Love it; don't have one bad word to say about it.

I love this song a lot, one of my all-time favorites. The anguished lyrics, guitar solos, Wendy and Lisa's introduction, hallway speech, everything is perfection.

It is a hard track to get into though. It's unusual and different than what you usually hear, I remember it took a while for it to grow on me. The only song on Purple Rain that's a notch below perfection, imo, is Baby I'm a Star. Fun, funky, etc... but not like the rest.

Don't take it so seriously, the world of music websites and journalism in general is littered with pretentious wordsmiths with minimal knowledge, a few predictable things they admire and tue ability to type what they consider interesting prose.

Seriously, I could write about ballet or opera, even though I only know a tiny bit of what a real pro knows. These jobs don't pay that well, so you get a whole lot of amateurs that know little but write readable prose.

Someone should send this idiot the full version -- educate a fake critic here and there, it might help.

How can you listen to Darling Nikki if you don't hear Computer Blue first? Those two songs are a mini suite within Purple Rain.

Plus, it evokes the image of Prince greased up like a pig at a county fair. What's not to love about that?
