For all we know, he could've dipped into the vault and dusted off some fluff from '81 and called it "20Ten". That just might be why he keeps such tight key control over his unreleased material these days.

It's a good question but as you point out it's not only about the music but the listener. . Here we are talking about putting a record in another musical era, in another era of the artist's career AND in another era in our lives when we were younger and easier to impress. That's too many factors IMHO. . Like I said in another thread I don't know how I would react to Purple Rain if I was to discpver it NOW with all the musical culture I now have and lacked when I did in 1990, and a 24 years older brain. I'd certainly love it but would I be as surprised and impressed as I was? Certainly not. Nor do I know what I'd think of some albums I simply like today but that would probably have blown my mind if I'd discovered them in 1990 because now they remind me of 100 other things, some of them better, while at the time it would have been totally new to me. A good example is Kamasutra: I loved it in 1998, then I discovered contemporary music, experimental music and ambient and now I see it for the failed experiment that it is. On the other hand the last album by The Forein Exchange is a record that I really enjoy, notably because it reminds me of Seal's golden years, but it's likely that if I'd discovered it in 1995 I'd have listened to it obsessively for months the way I did with Seal's second album back then. . So it's a good question but one that I can't answer to. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

It would have been called "9teen8TOne" . Take out the drum machines and synths in most of the songs and add a chugging disco bass. Future souls song would have a brother Johnson style bass loop on it. Act of God would have a sit down Piano type feel. . Prince would have a "Piece Afro" popular at the time, an afro shorn down to Jheri curl size with a chunk taken out one side. Like the guy from Boney M. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

As a fan who was a fetus when dirty mind was released all I can say is I've never understood the fascination with that album. You wanna talk cringeworthy then listen to the lyrics to sister or the funny ass lyrics to head. I loved 2010 when it was released and still do.To me his worst albums are For You,Prince, Planet Earth, NPS and Rave.Other than that its good to great.

If 20Ten had been 'released' in 1981 (perhaps on the cover of 'Jackie' or 'Just 17' instead of the Daily Mirror), I think I would have bought the Dollar album. “I don't believe anything, but I have many suspicions.”

This is just PURE HORNY. If Prince could get up to date with his 'feedback' instead of finding out about that skit in 1985 and making it the cover of 'Breakfast Can Wait', then YOU, Adorecream could be unpaid for your work!

Got this album free with a Belgian newspaper. I paid too much.
It doesn't matter which era, I don't think this album is likable - for me - in any respect.

If 20Ten was released in 1981 I probably would not have latched on to Prince A few nice songs but it would not have stirred my voyeristic creative mind like Controversy did
