Prince - Name Ownership Question
So there is a group in Minneapolis called MPLS and it isn't Prince's group that he started, so would Prince have rights to that name since he started a group called MPLS back the 90's? Someone please help me clarify this question.

As a known abbreviation for Minneapolis, I doubt Prince would have any claim to that name. Or, there might be a time limit for the rights to expire if they're not releasing anything. |

The CD is called M.P.L.S, but I when I get home from work I will double check for the name and as for Copyright purpose there is a time limit.For works created after January 1, 1978, a copyright is valid throughout the creator's lifetime. After the creator's death, the protection continues for a term of 70 years. If the copyrighted work was a joint work with two or more creators, the copyright term expires 70 years after the death of the last surviving creator. If there was a band called MPLS a long time ago that is not still performing or releasing new music, they would have no claim to the name today. Someone else that was gigging regularly and actively releasing stuff could use it. That old band would have to prove they were still a working unit in order to prevent someone else from using it.
